Koisuru episode 7 rewatched, let’s talk about it.
And I tried to avoid taking screenshots again, but Ao’s so pretty that I couldn’t help myself. Anyway this specific scene is really great because they’re just like, doing a star viewing thing with some local kids as a club event, which is a nice opportunity to be fun and cute, but in that particular shot Ao’s actually trying to explain the appeal of stars and space and shit to the jaded kid that hates everything. And it’s just a nice scene, she talks about how stars may just be dots in space, but together they form constellations, and she also puts the romanticism behind the age of stars into words really well. The Saturn we see now is actually from 80 minutes ago, the Andromeda Galaxy is from 2.3 million years ago, and if we go even further, we can see stars from the when the universe first came into being. That’s really beautiful. It’s certainly something I find endlessly fascinating. And Ao explains it with so much simple grace and elegance. What a delightful girl.
Took a few more Aos just cause she’s so pretty. This show has a lot more of her with hair down than I remember, but that’s epic so I’m not complaining. Anyway this episode she’s actually off sick for a day because I think this is the setup for like, her moving away? Mum pulls her away to say something, we don’t see what it is, and then Ao looks sad, so that adds up in my mind at least.
Speaking with knowledge of future episodes, I think this is a pretty interesting conflict in that like, it is a bit more I guess conventionally upsetting and scary a reality for a character to face than is the norm in this genre. And while Ao ultimately gets to move in with Mira, that’s not something that’s just casually decided on, neither of their parents are so flippant that “hey can Ao live with us” is just answered with an instant “yeah sure!”. Again it’s just more of the show being like, I guess more mature than it really needs to be, but I’m not complaining either. Koisuru’s still gonna be a happy and cute show - when Ao fails the Kiraboshi Challenge writing thing she still manages to insert herself into the thing, and despite having less involvement in it than Mira, she’s still going to get something out of it. But the show’s still willing to acknowledge the reality that these situations can be pretty complicated and won’t always go your way, and I think that’s interesting.
And speaking of which, Monroe and Sakurai applied for recommendations at the same university, but Monroe doesn’t get hers this episode. Truthfully I don’t remember where exactly this leads, but it’s another instance of Koisuru just being more mature than it probably needs to by acknowledging that failure is a very real possibility in life. And that’s just, it’s outside of how the genre usually works, but it still works anyway, and it makes for good writing and character moments.
We also have Inose taking steps to become a good club president, because as it is she’s not just gonna become good overnight since we put her in the position, she will actually have to work for it. Girl has to take steps to improve herself, but learn how to rely on others, next episode she’s gonna go networking a little and meet some nice people and it’s gonna be great. This show just has really good writing and it’s great.
When I initially finished the show, I gave it an 8/10 that was like, very much founded on how much I personally enjoyed simply watching the show. And I’m always all objective criticism is bullshit and you can’t truly separate your biases from your opinions on a show, blah blah whatever. But that 8 still felt like a very personal score - like I was giving it a higher score than maybe the writing warrants just because of how much I simply enjoyed watching it. But as we go through with this rewatch I feel that, no, the show’s writing is well worthy of that 8, and I don’t want to be too presumptuous, but potentially it’s worth moving it up to a 9. First time I watched the first episode I was like “this is just any other cute girl show” but now I feel like it really is in the upper echelon of the genre. Koisuru Asteroid is a truly delightful show.

Ağzımı her açtığımda saçmalıyorum sanki. Ne boktan düşünceler.
“İtle dalaşma çalıyı dolaş.”
İşte ben bahçede oturup bunları düşünürken bana içeriden sesleniyor. Pencereden bakıp çocuk gibi dil çıkartıyor.

Artık konuşanı kalmamış bir dilin tabletlerini çevirsin diye çağırıyorlar onu, gitmeden doğum günümü kutlamak istiyor. İşini erteliyor. Doğum günü pastamın pudingini o karıştırıyor.

God of High School episode 10 was pretty good, there were a lot of simultaneous fights that were all pretty good and, as is the show’s style, that look absolutely incredible. Don’t really know how I feel about Jin being able to do Daewi and Mira’s techniques tho. It’s not like him having his friends’ abilities makes them redundant - Mira still has her charyeok and I’m sure Daewi will get one at some point too. But it’s one of those things that just happens because God of High School is such an unbelievably lightning-paced show that like, well if Jin has these weaknesses but we’ve also just taught him that he’s not fighting for himself, but he and his friends are fighting together, why not take that concept to the furthest extreme it can go without having them literally fight together? Like I think that’s what happens and it’s kinda cool but again like I don’t want their fighting abilities being stolen since that sorta downplays them in a narrative that revolves around fighting so much as this. All that progress towards Mira avoiding the Sakura problem means nothing if her Naruto can do everything she can, you know? Again though she has charyeok so maybe it doesn’t matter.
Houkago Teibou Nisshi episode 10 is one of those episdoes that I was having so much fun with that when it ended I was like, genuinely upset since it meant I’d stopped watching the show.

Speaking of SAO, @lgbtsao‘s been getting asks related to Sword Art’s dub all day and fucking, aside from the one about proving they’re gay which I think I know who sent that, those other 3 are all like, extremely fucking confusing. I just joked about dubs or whatever and then assuming it’s the same anon which I think it is I got accused of being European because I apparently don’t know that Americans speak English or something? Everything they’re saying is like completely unreasonable but totally hilarious and I genuinely don’t know how to answer anything they send.
