Leonardo DiCaprio won his first Oscar Award for Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, for work on “The Revenant” during the live ABC Telecast of The 88th Oscars® and the audience gave the six time nominee a standing ovation.
Inspired by true events, THE REVENANT is an immersive and visceral cinematic experience capturing one man’s epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit. In an expedition of the uncharted American wilderness, legendary explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption. THE REVENANT is directed and co-written by renowned filmmaker, Academy Award® winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu (Birdman, Babel).

When asked backstage after accepting his Oscar® how it felt to finally win, DiCaprio had this to say, “It all feels incredibly surreal. You know, it's surreal because you can't reach out and physically meet everybody. You hear it on the internet, you hear it from other people, and, you know, the truth is, we always strive for the best in what we do. But this year in particular, I've been overwhelmed with such support. Really, truly, by so many fans and so many people in the industry. It's quite shocking, actually. And what can you say except I'm very grateful, I really am.”
