90685 Evaluation

Argh.

This task was frustrating as Hell. The classes all sounded horrible and I was only allowed two external patches, which are the best part of the final piece by far. I started off by creating a simple Triangle Oscillator and a Sine Oscillator for my very basic bassline. I then opened Reaon and spent ages coming up with Thor patches and testing them in Chuck. out of about ten different patches I chose two I liked the best and eexported those into Chuck. These patches formed the backbone of my piece accompanied by the rest of the Chuck UGens and classes.

I initially wanted to add a fade in function but I lacked the neccessary skills to create one or adapt exsisting functions. To patch the blips left by loops and outros I added in an ADSR in and a NRev reverb. This softened the blip made by the terrible Chuck classes and UGens.

In the end I wasn't very satisfied with my piece and I would've prefered to use Reason but what can you do?

This track is how I tested the different patches I created for the Thor in reason. Each section tests a different aspect of the patch. The first section is a straight note with a pause repeated four times, then there is a sseries of short notes squeezed together to test the definition of each note. Then a simple melody etc.

I added this class in to introduce a darker feel to the piece, but because the class is complete bogus, it doesn't sound like a voice at all, it sounds more like Kermit the frog. So in the end I just used it for another electro instrument. Now I have no idea how to add the darker sounds, none of the classes seem to do it. The all sound like bloody 8-bit squeaks.

Using my Thor patches in Reason

I have learnt that we need to record each note as a wave file within reason, then embed the wave files into the code. For the next little while I will be recording the notes I need for my piece of music.
