In the summer between high school and college I drove to see a guy called Matthew. He’d told me he just wanted to spend a day hanging out before he went to school in Maryland. It was 2.5 hours from my house, but he was someone I had only started talking to at the end of senior year, and I thought that if I didn’t go to him then I might never see him again. 

He directed me to this big lake about 20 minutes from his place. It was sunny, even through my shades, and we unbuttoned our shirts because of the heat. I was panting like a dog, so we found a flat rock in the shade and sat on it, looking over the water. There was a flock of ducks. 

He told me about the school he was going to. It was a tiny liberal arts college. His tone made it impossible to tell if he was excited or nervous or what, so I just listened and looked across the expanse. When the sun moved onto us again, we laid on the rock and watched the clouds. It was all very peaceful. 

At the end of the day we buttoned our shirts back up, went to the car, and I took him home. Before he got out, he hugged me, which was awkward, seeing as I hadn’t unbuckled so I couldn’t really reciprocate. He told me that I was the only friend who had visited him all summer. I told him I was sorry to hear that. Then he got out and went inside his house. 

I wrote him a letter when school started, and then texted him to make sure he got it. He never responded. Insane--that was the last time we ever saw each other.

dear dumbass. everything hurts.

today i finished tokyo ghoul, that anime is so goddamn awful. first season was so good and engaging but it just went downhill. hide did so much for kaneki and kaneki did what?? nothing. literally nothing. all he did was scar hide’s face. that’s it. literally so goddamn bad. so awful. also kaneki was so edgy it was so annoying.. like what..??? stop tryharding so much. and there were literally 20000 characters i deadass couldn’t keep up??? and i didn’t know who’s a ghoul or not bc they deadass all look the same. literally so BAD. i really wanted to talk to someone abt this anime but haha i have no friends, i hate my life.
