Delta, a bit confused with this boy’s odd behavior, takes a quick glimpse in his mind to better understand why he suddenly just froze while also having that extremely terrified look on his face.
After using his abilities, the old man discovers Kuniaki’s name, profession and the reason of why he was acting so strangely. It’s not the first time he had to deal with secret agents trying to find incriminating evidence against him, but this one seems like he found Brother by complete accident.
Instead of delving deeper in the rookie spy’s mind, Delta is more interested in seeing how Kuniaki is going to handle the situation first.
“Excuse me, do you need help with something?” He asks with a calming voice.
He blinked, mouth slightly open. That wasn’t the response he was expecting. Delta was eerily calm, just as the reports said, but... there was a caring nature in his voice. Was it a trick? A fantasy? Or was it genuine?
Kuniaki didn’t know what to make of him. Part of his mind wanted to take one simple swing at the man’s face, one good, hard punch for all of the shit he took responsibility for. Another part wanted to run in terror, renounce everything he’d ever learned as a spy, voluntarily deprogram himself. A third part actually wanted to sit and listen. All these voices fighting in his head, none seeming to win out over the other, until...
In a flash, he thought of something. A gambit. A dangerous gambit, one that the old man could probably instantly see through, but...
He swallowed a lump in his throat, before saying in a low voice, with as much conviction as he could muster:
“I want to join Free the Soul.”
