Twenty four hours post closing and I still can’t stop beaming. This was a deeply personal project and sharing it with the outside world was scary to say the least. I was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and emotion after each performance. It’s really all I can ask for as an artist and as a human. Thank you again to the extraordinary artists who helped me tell this story. Thank you to everyone who came to share it with us. And above all, I thank my parents for shaping, encouraging, supporting, and loving me. It’s a beautiful day to open a thesis. This is for the constitutional right of birthright citizenship, without which this play and this production would not exist. This is for my immigrant parents who are the bravest people I know. This is for my immigrant aunts, uncles, and cousins. This is for my ancestors: all of whom flung themselves across the globe to build a better life.
