“Electrify Tonight” by Tommy Richman. I never envisioned myself listening, and more importantly, enjoying a Tommy Richman song, yet here we are. To be fair, I tend to surprise myself. I used to think the big goals I dreamed of reaching would be unattainable for life but now I can see a path. A loose, dimly-lit, muddy path that if I balance on the fine line between focusing and keeping in touch with my surroundings, I will walk it to the end.
Is it possible to rely on others without hurting yourself? I spent so long not relying on anyone to hold onto my emotions but this summer I got a taste of what it’s like to trust someone. To let go of all expectations and to have fun. And it’s going to be hard to go back. I don’t think I’ll ever want to go back. It’s interesting how much you learn about yourself when you open your heart up to others.
Before I continue I’d like to give a shoutout to Cris who introduced me to this song. This was so fun/rewarding to play. Originally it started as me simply recording the audio that I was going to send you yesterday, but I got way too carried away with the visuals and created this nostalgic monstrosity.
So what does this all have to do with this song? Freedom and uncertainty. Two mirror emotions unfortunately (for the human) keep each other in check. This year I am on a search for freedom within bounds. That makes sense to me. I don’t want to explain mysel. so i hope it makes sense.
