One story says that they got their name from the texture of their, another that they were called Buffalo Soldiers for their braveness in fighting. They were active from 1866-1951. In the beginning they were operating between a rock and hard place. Here they were marginalized themselves and they had to battle with Native Americans from time to time. They fought in the American Indian Wars, Spanish–American War, Philippine–American War, Mexican Border War, World War I, and World War II. Their participation in the American Indian wars is where some have come to criticize them. The history is a very complex one because we're looking at their role with the US government and Native Americans. Some of those tribes that they fought with were some of the same ones that also fought on the same side as the Confederacy. Complex indeed. https://www.instagram.com/p/B8aAIW5BsFb/?igshid=1jh8f0lcm426e
