Brace yourself for a rush of ignorance.

I do sincerely apologise in advance because I know that this will come across as ignorant and offensive and it probably is and please know that's not my aim but this has been floating about in my mind for too many days and I need an answer.

Okay. So.

What I don't understand is the acronym/abbreviation/series of letters/what-have-you that we use to refer to the queer community. I've seen LGB, LGBT, LGBTQ, LGBTQI and so many other various combinations of the above. I've seen Q stand for queer and questioning depending on who you speak to. I've only recently been exposed to the I and since then I've seen someone say that they thought it had been removed and someone reply to that telling them it hadn't/had been re-included/something of the sort.

I'm just really confused by all of this information. Is there a correct acronym? Is there a series of letters that is all inclusive/PC? Will there ever be? Will we ever settle on something that can remain unchanged or has it already been found?

Please don't think I'm trying to be offensive because I'm really not, I'm just trying to further my understanding.
