Juliet&James: Aftermath
The empty bottle of whiskey clashed against the mahoghany tabletop. James wiped at his mouth, missing the spot several times. His sleeve slopped up the rest. His phone rested on the floor, where he had thrown in against the wall and it had fallen. Now it vibrated violently and blinked furiously. He was getting call after call about the same damn thing. Initially he felt the impulse to run to her. Then he hesitated, wanting to kill Joseph. But he didn't know how. He couldn't bring himself to. He would swing his gun around in his hands. But the more time he wasted, the more pathetic he felt. Eventually, he lost himself to drink. And there he spent the majority of the night.
That bastard Rosario. James was beginning to see a reoccuring theme set in motion. When something was done that a Rosario didn't like, immediately the trigger was pulled. This time, the victim got out with her life. This hit a very crucial nerve in James, especially thinking back on their fall-out days before. Juliet had told him how she'd take a bullet for him. Juliet had taken a bullet. Fuck. He couldn't rid himself of the thought of how stupid she was. Why did she have to open her big mouth and get herself shot? But he knew that it was her nature to. Not to get shot, but to talk. To face the situation head on, no matter what the consquence was. The image of guns didn't frighten her, as it still did him.
James looked at the empty bottle of whiskey and cursed his luck. His phone vibrated a different tone this time. A tone he was very familiar with. A tone that reminded him what he was going to do before he fucked himself over. It was Juliet. He knew it before he stumbled over to his abandoned phone. The text read: I miss you, James. He didn't even bother to text back. Plunging his phone into the depths of his pants pocket, he bounded towards his leave.
When he arrived at her doorstep, he rushed inside, ignoring the bout of people he could have recognized had he given himself the time to care. But he didn't. He just needed to see her. To make sure she was alright. He had wanted to be the first to see her. He would've liked to be there with her just so he could have stepped in front of her just as the shot had been released. All this wishing, he had to stop. His frantic worrying would benefit no one. As soon as he entered her room, he was at her bedside in two strides. His eyes, concerning, registered her figure in the bed. Her leg was bandaged and held up by a makeshift contraption. Looking at her lying figure, awake and alert, no doubt because of his making a lot of noise. How are you? Are you okay? That fucking douche. Out of all the things he could have opened with. The first thing that slipped from his lips, "You idiot."
