A Delicate Plan (Part 1)
( For @piratesangel , and @cheshire0824 who owns Christianna, Alejandro, Tomas, Lilia, Maria, and Rosie Salazar )
Eliza laughed with Jeanine as they finished pruning the hedges. The gardens were spectacular, and were in full bloom as the servants enjoyed a late spring day. Warm, clear, plenty of birds. One thing Eliza would always appreciate, was the absence of pollution. She could take a deep breath, and smell the air as it had once been, before the industrial revolution. Though she didn’t belong in this time, she would forever be grateful she got to witness it.
Jeanine stretched, her back cracking a bit.
“No fun getting old lass....savor your youth!”
The shifter smiled and helped gather the tools, taking most with her to ease the burden on Jeanine. They shared a knowing glance. The plan was almost ready to commence. A special potion to drug the vampires, meticulously brewed for days. Once they had their necklaces or trinkets out of the hands of those monsters, Eliza would have all of her powers back, and the blockade of Armando’s own magic would disappear. The other servants were on board, and had all been keeping an airtight lid on everything.
Tonight, they would all be set free; to return to their rightful homes and lives.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Armando and his siblings had all arrived at the dining hall beforehand. It was Mother’s Day, and Maria would be arriving home from her day of being pampered. The table had been meticulously set, candles lit, vases of fresh flowers, and a box of Maria’s favorite chocolates was nestled next to her plate, along with a multitude of other gifts awaited her on a smaller table nearby.
The matriarch swept into the room, wearing a black and crimson dress with gold jewelry; a warm grin on her face as she placed a hand over her heart.
“Mis hijos! Oh, Gracias! Such a lovely end to a perfect day!”
Once Maria was seated, Eliza and Jeanine brought out several bottles of the blood. These were not the drugged ones; those would come later. Let the vamps be lulled by the evening and their appetites.
Christianna as usual was not pleased with anything Eliza did, grabbing her wrist and demanding the vegetable tart be flawless. The shifter nodded, whisking it away and remade the entire pie, but making sure the staff and children got to have the more rustic one so it didn’t go to waste; Rosie happily sharing some with Jeanine as Eliza patted the girl’s back.
Moments with the kids, was something Eliza would miss dearly. She had grown so attached to them. Rosie would surely cry and wonder where her Grande Liza had gone off to. When Rosie got older, Eliza knew she would figure out why the bruja and other servants had left. And hopefully, give her tio hell. The adults wouldn’t be able to keep Rosie and the rest in the dark forever. Sooner or later, the children would realize just how insidious their elders could be.
A few hours on, the vampires were sated, and a more good natured; Armando being especially prone to hunger impacting his mood. The dessert course was brought out, spiced blood. Eliza always hid her grimace when serving from these enchanted bottles; the smell of the warm crimson liquid bringing bile up. But Eliza didn’t mind this time. Each bottle contained a healthy dose of the potion.
Armando rose to make a toast for Maria.
“For our dear madre, who has been a loving force of nature our entire lives, and who has stood strong and firm, helping guide us and nurture us!”
They raised their glasses and Maria took the first sip. A moment later, her eyes rolled back in her head, and she slumped in her seat; glass tumbling from her claws. The matriarch began snoozing deeply. But the rest of her family, had yet to drink. Screeches and roars pierced the air as Tomas and Alejandro rushed to Maria’s side; propping her up.
“MADRE! MADRE!”
Christianna narrowed her yellow eyes at Eliza and Jeanine, smelling the panic. She pointed a long claw and gave a truly horrific call.
“YOU....vile putas! What did you put in that blood??! A POISON??”
Talons gripped Eliza’s shoulder and a growl was in her ear. Armando was right behind her now, and she could feel his rage; his breath in her neck where he had bitten her many times in the past. Maria snorted as she twitched and growled in her slumber. The siblings relaxed as they realized it was a sleeping potion. Eliza was confused. The potion was supposed to not set in for at least 15 minutes, to avoid a situation like this....let the vampires drink their fill of it, and then drop off into sleep at the same time.
“Chica....you have made a grave error....thought you could slip us all something and just leave?....You belong to us....belong to me....”
Tomas’s teeth were bared to their fullest extent, his claws clicking as he advanced; hunger and hatred in every line.
“I should toss you around the clearing again, bruja.....”
Alejandro was at his brother’s side, long teeth showing, a deadly, venomous smirk in place.
“I’ll help! This little wench has forgotten what we do to those who harm our familia...” a bit of drool fell from his lips. “Tenderize the meat beforehand!”
Jeanine tried to reason with the beasts.
“We don’t know why that happened! We did nothing to those bottles! let us-”
Christianna grabbed a hold of her hair.
“Liesss.....nothing but lies, senora....”
Armando stood straighter; maintaining his hold.
“I should have sensed something was up your slimy sleeve, bruja...mi familia has been generous and kind....and you turn around and pull a stunt like this...you’re going to FIX THIS....NOW....”
“It has to run it’s course! I can’t just-”
She was thrown onto the table along with Jeanine. Christianna was at Eliza’s side; pulling out her arm and exposing the scarred crook of it along with the wrist.
“PLEASE! LEAVE JEANINE OUT OF THIS! IT WAS ALL MY IDEA!”
Tears were streaming down her cheeks for the struggling woman. Alejandro and Tomas had stalked over, eyes skimming the older lady.
“She’s getting up there in years! We should finish her off...won’t last much longer at her rate...” they loomed over Eliza’s friend and both humans screamed.
There was an awful crash of breaking glass and tumbled furniture. Sounded like people had simply barreled in through the windows...Eliza craned her neck to see. Indeed, there were more people in the room now. The front door was then bashed in as well, and the shouts of both men and women echoed throughout the mansion.
Slayers had arrived; two dozen of them. All armed to the teeth with multiple silver weapons. The vampires roared at such an intrusion; eyes alight with a vicious fire. Armando rumbled like a storm.
“You...DARE TO INVADE THE HOME OF MI FAMILIA?! YOU ARE ALL DEAD CARNE! EVERY LAST ONE OF YOU...”
Tomas and Alejandro were preparing to battle, sharing a smirk. Christianna had brandished a razor sharp fan and tensed her body like a spring. They surrounded their mother, who was still snoring. Eliza and Jeanine had gotten up, and swiftly moved to stand by the slayers; hearts humming with trepidation. Now they had a chance at escape....
“Oh I don’t think you’ll be doing ANY of us in, old tick....”
A rather grizzled mountain of a man strolled up, grinning wide.
“The Salazars! A nest of parasites....been a thorn in the side of slayers for literal centuries....all let their guard down eventually, and now we’re finally here! G;ad I get to meet you face to face, some honest opportunity for chit chat...”
The slayer winked at Eliza, a knowing gleam in his eyes. She stared at him, suddenly afraid to be anywhere close by; as if he was a bomb rigged to go off at random.
“Where would you like to begin, Armando? We have all night for our little talk and I’m a very patient man!”
He made a rapid motion with his hand and weighted silver nets were shot out from every direction; covering Armando and his siblings. The slayer laughed, slamming his fist into the table.
“Nice shot! Now, have a seat you pieces of leech shit...I have a lot of questions for ya....”
