i think the thing that gets me about shipping an explicitly aroace character, especially an explicitly sex/romance-repulsed one, is like...it's not just the fics. that's fine, whatever, write whatever you want. the thing that gets me is the way people choose to defend it. sometimes people genderbend a canon gay ship, or make one of the dudes bi when he shows zero interest in women canonically, and nobody tries to point at canon and go "but it COULD be true!" so i don't have to sit here and read meta that goes like
maybe he's just traumatized into not liking women
maybe if he was presented with the option to have sex with women with no pressure, he'd take it, just to see what the fuss was about
the original poster would not imply that this is somehow a better ending than him just never trying to have sex with a woman, because sometimes people are bisexual and they just didn't realize it. identities are fluid!
don't you know that sometimes gay men like having sex with women? don't you know it's actually MORE rude to assume that ALL gay men don't want to have sex with women?
people just don't feel the need to say any of that. they can go "i understand this isn't canon but i'm playing in this space."
so like, gosh, i wonder what it is that makes them unable to do the same about aroace people. it's such a mystery.
