Captain Underpants: A Mega Blissmas (2020)
I'm going to deviate a bit from my norm for this one because I feel like you already know if you're going to watch it or not. As an adult with no human children, I did not particularly want to watch it. However, I was hoping it would bring back some nostalgia for me. I did read the first Captain Underpants books because they came out when I was in elementary school I think? Not that they were masterpieces either. So since you already know whether you're gonna watch it or not, let me tell you about this trash heap.
**Spoilers**
If you're familiar with the series, best friends Harold (Jay Gragnani) and George (Ramone Hamilton) are often bored with life as they know it. They recreate their life how they want it in comic books, which is how their principal Mr. Krupp (Nat Faxon) became Captain Underpants. In this particular version, they're bored with Christmas and the overall lack of lasers, robots, and spicy foods (which spicy foods are part of Christmas for some people, so this seems a bit closed minded to include in a tv movie). Their parents try to explain to them that Christmas is the way it is because it's for everyone. Seriously, it could be a drinking game how many times that line is said in 45 minutes. Harold and George, being children, think that everyone loves whatever they love, so they go back in time and tell Santa (Jim Cummings) to change Christmas. For some reason, he does? Like just gives up on everything he stands for and changes everything? But when they go back to the future, it's not what they expected. Everyone hates it. Santa is a douchebag now. Then they finally understand what their parents were trying to tell them, and they fight robots to save Christmas.
It's a good thing I was too busy studying to give this my full attention because that would have been painful. Also ham nog is the single most disgusting concept to have ever been thought of. Zero stars.
