There are few times that Damian is asleep before Jon, being a night vigilante in his youth and then currently doing hospital shifts in his early adulthood, had him being more of a night owl.

So for Jon, finding him now fast asleep as early as 8 pm was a bit of a surprise. Or maybe not so much when he remembered the almost 24 hours shift Damian had, thanks to the most recent emergency situation Gotham found itself in. But there Damian is, in the middle of their bed clutching Jon’s pillow, in one of Jon’s hoodies and with the curtains only halfway closed.

Jon approaches him and, when noticing that Damian’s breathing and heartbeat remains even and restful, he decides to just take a moment to kneel besides him by the floor. He tends to be able to watch him like this in those mornings Damian doesn’t force himself to be a functional human being early in the day (earlier than Jon would like for him or himself to be honest) but so rarely can he do it during the night.

While there is no denying that Damian looked softer and lovely asleep in the sunlight, there was something otherworldly on how he looked when bathed by both darkness and moonlight. It is clear that Damian and his family are loved by the night and the moon just like Jon and his family are loved by the day and the sun.

He doesn’t know how long he stays there, with his hand reaching out and caressing Damian’s cheek as gently as possible but he knows it’s quite a bit of time, especially when his musings are interrupted by a drowsy but still grumpy sounding “hayseed…”

Jon just hums, acknowledging and noticing that Damian is barely fighting off sleep’s pull on him. His boyfriend, still grumpy, still sleepy and still so beautiful moves the pillow away, muttering that “either you get over here or just take a picture already, creepy hayseed”. Jon chuckles, a bit embarrassed but never regretful, and quickly changes before taking his place in their bed, holding onto Damian while letting sleep and warmth take over him too.

I do at times find it ironic when the youngins complain and yell about adults shipping with 16-18 year olds (even if they've made an age appropriate OC to project through) Yet may be 15-17 themselves and ship with a 20+ character and not see the irony.
