Have you ever gotten into something, but avoided the fandom?

So, a YouTube lets player I watch is playing through the first Danganronpa game. I got impatient and just watched the anime, and I'm slowly getting through the rest of the games (they progress so slowly I don't have time to watch twenty seven of these hour long videos for all three games okay) But from about half way through the anime I came across what I call a wasted opportunity character. A character who could have been beloved to the fandom, but instead will cause it nothing but grief. A character type I like to call the Versatile. A character who's development was cut at just the perfect time to leave wiggle room for fan interpretation. The ideal Headcannon character, if you get my drift. Someone who every fan will see differently, someone who can be whatever you want. And I love this character for that very reason! To be able to see someone in so many different ways is super cool and lets us be creative! Not to mention the character in question is just super cool in general! And by now I'm sure you all know who I'm talking about. But with Headcannons comes arguments and I don't even have to go into the tags to know exactly what I'll find. So yeah, I love DR and pretty much every character. Although I'm not quite so familiar with the newer cast (I can only watch so many videos at a time) but I'm really hesitant on joining the fandom side of things. Because I'm a Headcannon hog, a multi shipper, and all the sorts of things fandoms don't like! I will try literally anything! So, I'm scared that I'm gonna try a couple different things and no matter what I do people will get mad!!!
