this is an FFXIII + Fate/Stay Night crossover post

so like at the end of Lightning Returns everyone is reincarnated in the New World and it's apparently earth and the main characters are ostensibly all reincarnated in the modern day and lightning is in alsace france for some reason but she has all her memories yeah and then the voiceover talks about the crystal age being 'a legend from before the world was born'

whiiiiich would make lightning and the others legendary heroes probably, yeah? Most of them managed to amass some amount of acclaim. Aaaand they DID technically die, so their legends - such as they were - ought to result in heroic spirits like any other. The Patron, The Director, The Daughters of Etro, The Shadow Hunter, The Guardian of Chaos, The Seeress... And the Savior who killed god and stole his creation for humanity.

teeeeechnically, despite (probably) having their memories, the main characters are all only reincarnations of the people they were. Aaaannnnd it would be really easy to make FFXIII the creation backstory for any series that looks mostly like our world.

So say the Fate/Stay Night world has legends of the crystal age and some enterprising magus tries to summon a godkiller to compete in the grail war

and Lightning's been on the throne of heroes retroactively since the current world was born, but then she was reincarnated??? So she gets summoned as Rider but she's Eclaire the normal french woman who is Sick Of This Shit, I Thought I Was Done With This Bullcrap, No Fuck You You're Going To Make Me Miss My Sister's Wedding I Have Been Waiting For This For Literally A THOUSAND YEARS OKAY but also she's Lightning the heroic spirit because she has her memories and they're the same

and she's Rider and Odin is one of her Heroic Phantasms and everything is amazing

(I mean she could be saber instead but. Odin. necessary. required.)

... casually cross-casts everyone as Grail War participants

All of the FFXIII main characters could be summoned as Rider, because Eidolons. But also.

Fang as Lancer, definitely. Serah and Sazh could both qualify for Archer, I think. Noel could be Saber or Assassin or Berserker. Caius could be Saber or Berserker. Vanille could be Assassin or Caster. Snow could only qualify for Berserker and Rider, probably, and Hope is pretty Caster.

get summoned. and. they were all just alive, in france, and suddenly they're in japan and they feel like l'cie again? no, not even like l'cie -- Lightning and Hope have felt this powerful before, and it didn't mean anything good. and they were all just at serah and snow's wedding, like obviously they don't get summoned all at the same time but lightning disappears from serah's wedding and then so do the others one after the other and

they do not give two shits about the holy grail, they are all perfectly happy RIGHT WHERE THEY ARE, THANKS, those mages are goiNG TO RUE THE DAY----

(we'll say it's the fourth grail war i guess because i wouldn't. want to inflict their anger on those poor children in the fifth. it would be. a very different fourth grail war. Lightning would probably be the one summoned by the Einzberns, the 'most legendary hero'. she'd hear kiritsugu's wish and go straight to "LISTEN HERE YOU LITTLE SHIT" because his ideal world sounds to her to be WAY TOO MUCH like bhunivelze's -- if the world has no conflict or sadness because it CAN'T have conflict, then that peace, that happiness, is meaningless. free will has a greater value than even world peace (sorry kiritsugu, i know your heart's in the right place))

Waver summons Caster and serial killer dude summons Saber (and Noel is sO FUCKING PISSED RIGHT OF THE BAT, OH MY GOD, serial killer dude has GREAT REGRET and then Noel reappears in France upon his un-summoning w/ the beginnings of an explanation for the others who weren't summoned and they all hop a plane and oH MY GOD) and everyone else summons the classes they canonically summoned i guess

but NONE of the heroic spirits are interested in the grail and they're even less interested in fighting each other because they are Nakama and shit and they are surprised and Very Peeved to learn of the magical underworld of this world and they're filled with resolve to take control of the situation immediately
