Card backing for the 3″ CD single (”CD³″) version of “Footprints” by Squeeze issued by American record label A&M Records in 1988.
Purchased not long after that Robyn Hitchcock & The Egyptians CD single I wrote about yesterday, this Squeeze CD single likewise is on A&M. Bassist Andy Metcalfe of The Egyptians (and, before that, The Soft Boys) also played with Squeeze in this lineup, though he only appears on three songs from the band’s 1987 album Babylon and On.
Given Squeeze’s album was released in September 1987 and this single—the album’s fifth (!)—came out in June 1988, my purchase of this CD single was once again for the otherwise unavailable bonus tracks. I already had Babylon and On, and in fact I had tickets to see the band live in concert just a month after this single’s release.
It’s worth noting that for this, as with the other CD3, the packaging design is on-point. Instead of simply slapping the 7″ sleeve design on top in a tiny square, the artwork has been reimagined for the canvas. The disc itself is housed a cardboard sleeve with its own artwork, originally attached to the front of this card.
