Pledge Music Needs A&R Scouts
A musician by definition makes music. Or perhaps they just play other people’s music. When someone asks you what you do for a living and you tell them that you are a “musician” – what that means is that you are in the business of music, and you are able to somehow make money of music. So really, a professional musician is more like a music salesmen than just an artist. Not only do they need to produce and create, they also need to be able to sell. It seems like that no matter what industry you’re a part of, the business minded individual needs to show his or her head every now and then. There are positions in the industry that don’t actually involve making music, they involve getting someone to buy it. This role is one that has been developed in the later part of the music business, when heads figured out that advertising was key to selling an album. We known them as the A&R heads; every company has got one – and not all of them are likeable. These are the guys who sometimes have final say over an artist’s career. They can axe a career before it even starts. http://www.hypebot.com/hypebot/2013/07/new-on-hypebots-jobs-board-pledge-music-needs-ar-scouts.html
