The first documented public performance of an electric guitar was in Wichita, KS in 1932. The event took place at the Shadowland Dance Hall during the month of October and lasted several days. Officially designated as the Ro-Pat-In Electro A-22, the cast aluminum instrument was better known as the Rickenbacker “Frying Pan.” For decades to follow, similar instruments would cook up melodies to feed the souls of millions.
