          "I WOULDN'T SAY I HAVE MUCH OF AN EGO AT ALL,   REALLY."     but is that really true?   does one not need quite the ego to even get into her position?   oh,   teodozja likes to argue that she has no say in anyone's matter.   there are no shots called by her.   she performs a task  &  does so adequately.   what does that make her,   other than an employee?   a freelancer at best?   but that's it.   nothing you'd need an ego for,   just a young woman who has found her little niche in the world.     (EXCEPT WHEN YOU PLAY THE COURT FOR A FOOL.   EXCEPT WHEN YOU PLANT EVIDENCE IN A WAY THAT LEADS AWAY FROM YOU.   EXCEPT WHEN YOU ASK OTHERS TO LIE FOR YOU.)     but that is just common sense,   right?   that has nothing to do with ego.     "nothing to bury,   nothing to cremate."     almost preferable were the times when she could still pretend to not know a lick of english———   not a terrific strategy,   but one she managed to get away with once or twice.   at least that hadn't lad to deeply philosophical conversation she could not lie her way out of without looking like an idiot.     "no,   i think my ego is the last thing i am going to concern myself with.   my soul too,   in case that's the next thing you wanted to bring up——"
