Hi there. I was looking wondering how you made the chest armor for your Tauriel cosplay. I was looking to do something similar but that piece was causing me trouble. Your entire costume looks awesome!! :)
The base is made out of pieces of craft foam duct taped together and then covered with a costume pleather I got at Jo Anns (bonded using heat’n bond iron-on adhesive) To get the pieces of foam the size and shape I needed, I made a duct tape dress form (put on a t-shirt, wrap yourself up in duct tape, you will need someone to help) and drew out where I wanted the seams (under-bust, sides, shoulders and back). Once I had them the way I wanted I cut it up and traced it onto the foam (for the bust I had to put a dart to get the cup shape).
After I taped it all together and tried it on to make sure it fit I ironed on the fabric (which got a little tricky around the bust area. make sure if you are using fabric to cut some extra to account for that and to wrap around the sides.
After that, I added grommets to the back and ta-da! Because it’s made out of craft foam it does bend and move and go back into place for the most part, with a slight crease here or there, but nothing too bad of noticeable.
If you scroll through my WIP pics I think you will see what I am talking about. Please let me know if you have any more questions about it! My arm bracers were made the same way :)
