GASAAHHHH THAT OIKAWA RANT WAS SO LONG IM SO SORRY BUT HERES SUGA (more like just comparing suga and oikawa but that’s ok ALSO none of this makes sense i hate it here bye) ;—;

honestly, ima be real here - suga was one of those people i instantly fell in love with. it was like the polar opposite of how i felt about oikawa (i’ll get to that in a moment.) i saw him and my heart went !!! and i loved him! there’s no other way for it. i classified him as the sweet boy of karasuno, and in some ways that is correct. but OP’s analysis of him has me thinking (as everything does LOL) and now, looking back to every scene that includes him, i slap myself for not realizing sooner just how AMAZING sugawara koushi is.

once again, like OP said, sugawara is so so quick to dismiss his own needs and jealousy. when it comes down to himself and the team, his ability to completely erase himself from the situation is.... frightening. he is able to put the needs of everyone else before his, which is, in some cases, good, but also uhhh- definitely not lol. which honestly brings me back to oikawa (UGH ik ik i cant shut up about bitchboy).

oikawa and suga are introduced in haikyuu as two completely different people. which- they are! but the difference in them is prominent to a viewer who has never seen either before. while suga is introduced as this warm, optimistic person who’s ready to help his team, oikawa is introduced as...well, the villain. he’s the big boss everyone needs to beat. with almost everyone i’ve talked to, they’ve admitted to loving suga and hating oikawa at first. but they’re similar!

both suga and oikawa have dealt with the force that is known as kageyama. kageyama has always been that presence in their mind that irritates them; suga is more lowkey about it, while oikawa is obviously very vocal and external in his responses. but both feel overshadowed by their junior, which i find hella interesting - because they both seem to dislike each other when competing in the spot for nationals. kageyama is the thing they share in common- but! the way they approach it is the key in how their characters differ.

sugawara takes kageyama’s appearance as a challenge, but ultimately gives up. he comes to the realization that, for the better of the team, he should sacrifice his sets and his hunger to win. oikawa somehow becomes more self-centered when kageyama comes into the picture. he is more power-hungry and anxious to win and prove himself, rather than back down.

IDK MAN. suga just makes me realize just how lucky some of us are to be where we are right now. sugawara koushi is probably one of the most selfless people i know, yet he’s also so,,,, how do i put this,,,,, ambitious? he is also always searching for more, but in a TEAM. he is so so so supportive, always reaching, always being the one ppl can fall back on and he guides them to where they need to be. he seems firm in his resolve that he can be that natural leader that yes, does have mom qualities, but also can be a bit harsh and a bit impulsive in his actions. he sacrifices and some people don’t even realize it. and yet he ALSO keeps going, no matter what, just like oikawa (yet probably not as fiery lol)

so. if i’m being honest. they would be best friends lol THIS WAS ALL JUST SO MUCH BRAINROT IM SO SORRY I HAVE SUCH STRONG FEELINFS ABOUT THESE TWO BUT NONW OF IT MAKES SENSE I JUST WANNA GIVE THEM BOTH BIG HUGS AND TELL THEM THEYRE DOING AMAZINF —🧸

again, i love how you phrased all of this because yeah! Suga and Oikawa both have to deal with someone more talented than themselves, they just both go about it in a different way and AHHHHH i fuckin glove it because there isn’t one “right” or “better” way. it depends on who it is and all of that. 

AND ALL OF THIS IS ALSO WHY I LOVE SUGAWARA KOUSHI SO MUCH. PLEASE.

OKAY THIS WAS DEF NOT AN HOUR BUT I GOT CAUGHT UP WITH OTHER STUFF HHH,,, here’s my thoughts on oikawa!

oikawa, like OP said, is hated right from the start. there’s just no way you can like him lol. he’s made out to be this egocentric, loud ass person who steals the spotlight and immediately makes you cringe from how “charming” he can be. what i love about him, though, is that his facade is so convincing it convinces us as the watchers/readers that that’s all he is. no one questions it, even though this trope of the confident playboy being insecure is so so so so SO common. it’s in almost every story i know, in some way shape or form. but when we see oikawa (at least when i saw him) i didn’t think “oh he’s so broken inside.” i just wanted to scream in his face in frustration. he had us ALL fooled, which to me is so interesting, because he must’ve had so much practice to where he must even convince himself sometimes that he’s this all powerful human being. that he has no flaws. that he’s, basically, immortal.

but then you get to the eps where he loses. again, and again, and again. and suddenly you’re just- you’re whiplashed, because this isn’t the oikawa you were shown. it’s a completely different person; someone who cries in frustration from not living up to his own expectations, someone who breaks down easily, someone who almost punched his JUNIOR because he didn’t know how else to expression his anger with himself. in other words, oikawa has the biggest fucking superiority complex that i know in an anime character thus far. he acts like he’s the absolute best, but by god he doesn’t actually think that. and that’s where i personally start to relate, hardcore.

as someone who has grown up with parents who push their daughter to get good grades, i am someone who has naturally high standards for myself. i’ve had multiple people, ranging from close friends to teachers to even my own parents themselves, tell me, “stop being so harsh on yourself.” “you’re doing fine, don’t sweat it.” “you are your hardest critique!” but it’s never that easy! it is NEVER that fucking easy. i know this, which is why it’s so clear for me to see where oikawa comes from. that constant longing for more, the constant comparisons. i compare every little thing about myself to other people, and i see that in oikawa. oikawa just wants to be enough — and not for iwaizumi, not for seijoh, not for the entire world. he wants to be enough for himself.

oikawa has always worked so so so so hard for his goals. he’s overdone himself a hundred times over, but he’s STILL going. even now, past the haikyuu ending, i like to think he’s constantly improving because he is still not satisfied. that’s what i love about oikawa, but also hate. he is already enough for everyone including himself, so why keep going? i don’t even know myself, but i do know that i keep going because i feel like i need to uphold these standards i’ve set for myself. so i guess he does that too, with a mixture of wanting to prove himself over and over.

overall, oikawa is, to me, the stupidest character in haikyuu. he’s a bitch and he’s flawed and he’s a pain to deal with, but that makes him human. that makes him relatable. i love him for it. —🧸

i love oikawa too because there’s a part where if i were there and actually knew Oikawa, I would’ve seen him as someone with natural talent. But because this is a show and we can see the thoughts of every character... WE know that’s not true. Which also makes me wonder how many people we see as talented is actually just someone who put in work.

DAICHI AND HIS FOUR LITTLE SIBLINGS MAKES MY HEART THROB OH MY GOD i like the idea that two of them are much younger but the other two are maybe like older elementary or in middle school even?? but still on the younger side. and ahhhh

what my brother would do when he was in high school/college (since i was in late elementary and then middle school) would that he would pick me up and throw me onto my bed even though i got bigger and it’d make me go !!!! AND JUST THE IDEA OF DAICHI CHASING AFTER HIS LITTLE SIBLINGS AND DOING THAT. ugh it makes me so soft 

but then when they’re being too rambunctious he has to give them like a little bit of a scolding and if they’re like 🥺 he’ll just let out a sigh and makes a lil compromise with them. 

like if Daichi’s trying to do his homework but he got home late from volleyball practice and his siblings miss him so much! and they just want to play and he tries to tell them he’s doing his homework and they’re 🥺So he makes a little compromise that if they still have homework, they can do homework with him and afterwards he’ll spend time with them!!

But like what if you go over and spend time with him and his little siblings are so curious about who caught the attention of their older brother and maybe his little sisters are a little more sus about you. Like for some reason they just don’t like you because ):< they want Daichi’s attention. BUT you get them small little gifts each time you come over, and even let them come on your dates with Daichi so that they like you a bit more but it turns into a hang out with Daichi’s little siblings and not a date with Daichi. OH and then you talk about how you’ll watch Sailor Moon with them and slowly they build a little bond with you and they want to spend time with you instead of Daichi.

from what I DO know and what I’ve read about him I can see him as someone who didn’t realize the effect he has on you,,, and maybe in the car in the backseat is Tendou and Ushijima. Ushi doesn’t even notice it EITHER but Tendou does and as everyone’s getting out of the car Tendou goes up to Semi and teases him AND in turn tells him and now. Anytime Semi’s backing up, that’s all he notices from you and it kinda makes him flustered lajdsfljgfdjg he almost hit the curb once and he also almost hit a few cars u__u
