Publishers’ Binding Thursday
Today’s publishers’ binding was found in our Fromkin Memorial Collection, a social-justice-based collection established in 1970 in memory of Morris Fromkin. The book is simply titled Poor? and is allegedly by A.N. Unknown. The author’s real name is Frederick Wilson Moore, as identified in the catalog record. I couldn’t find any information online about Moore, unfortunately, other than that there are a lot of other Frederick Moores out there! It was published by Continental Publishing Co. in 1903. I could also not find any concrete information about Continental Publishing Co., so this book is a bit of a mystery (which I find appropriate because of the big question mark on the cover!). It is about the struggle of the poor and working class and includes anecdotes from the author’s personal experience.
I saw this book on the shelf and couldn’t pass it by. The big pink question mark on the mossy green background and the clever pseudonym were just too good! It is interestingly subtitled "A New Political Standard for a New Democracy for a Millionaire Age."
