I’ve been playing 60 parsecs recently (as per usual) and I’ve been thinking about one playthrough where I was playing as a woman (I think Deedee) and I was already romantically involved with April but Maegan wanted to establish a relationship with me and I said no, which is something I’ve done before but I haven’t really thought about it, and Astro then said something along the lines of my partner wondering why Maegan would try to be in a same sex relationship at this age (which is messy asf Astro, but imma get to you in a sec) and Astro also said that she was crying and it was wondering if she had been battling with this for a long time and this was first and maybe last time she could be able to express herself, and I have thoughts:
1. Astro you lowkey a messy ass bitch and need to be dismantled bc ik my partner didn’t say all of that and you didn’t put no quotes stop putting words in her mouth 🙄
2. But in all seriousness this actually made me feel so bad because while I already have a headcanon that they’re all bi, I’ve never (well never is an exaggeration tbf) thought too deeply about how they might interact with the world regarding their identities when not in space especially given that this takes place somewhere in the 40s-60s! I am aware that their universe is different from ours especially since Emmet was allowed to teach Mary Jane (which is something I’m excited to talk about in a different post because I think that’s super cool, and on another note, I know that schools were desegregated in the mid 50s but black teachers/students were discouraged from being near white schools) but I like to imagine (well ig “like” isn’t the best word) that discrimination was still there.
I headcanon that that while Maegan absolutely loves her family and her husband and deeply misses them, I think that she regrets that she ignored a side of her that she could’ve explored because it wasn’t fully accepted and maybe she didn’t even want to admit her feelings to herself, and thinking about that makes me pretty sad
