In the now
The end is near. Summer is upon us, and many people, including myself, have no idea where it came from. It seems like yesterday that I did the things that I did yesterday, because it was. Time seems to keep accelerating, but when we live in the present, is it not so slow? If you live in the now, the now never ends, it’s always now. Nobody really does that though. Everybody is always looking to the future with, “I can’t wait until summer!” or the past with, “I can’t believe I actually adulted yesterday.” All these things are valid and are worth recognizing, but nobody ever says, “Hey, check out this sentence that I am currently forming!” Nobody says that because a) It would be rather strange, and b) it is completely unnecessary.
My point is that sometimes living in the present can seem weird and out of the norm, but it is an important thing to do in life. Being caught up in the past is often depressing because let’s face it, we tend to remember the parts of life that hurt us, and that’s not a smart idea. It’s like trying to walk out of a dark cave backwards with your shoe laces tied together whilst not knowing which way is up.
Being whisked away by the whimsical wonders of the what’s-in-store is not very healthy either, especially when it continually dashes your expectations on the rocks. It’s like running as fast as you can into lanes and lanes of invisible traffic. Living in the present, however, doesn’t allow you to trip over the ruts of the past or catapult off into the void of the future. Rather it gives you a place to live, in a time that’s always now. Summer is coming, and who knows? Maybe you’ll meet someone who can change your future, and help you turn your back on the past, but don’t wait until then. Find them now.
