“You know that’s f–stupid, right?” Kanda asked as he stared at Allen in disbelief. He was currently hopping along the slick rocks that crossed the river they’d been following for the last hour. Kanda grimaced when Allen turned on his feet and swayed.
“What did Master Tiedoll say?”
That was a legitimate question but, “We’re in the middle of the goddamn forest if you fall then that’s you fault.” He looked down then to adjust Mugen at his hip and that’s when he heard it.
A barely there yelp and suddenly a loud SPLASH.
Kanda let out a snort. “Told you.”

A/N: This is part 1 of 2 for a1y-puff‘s birthday! (technically it’s still the 6th over here but the point was to upload it at midnight her time) HAPPY BIRTHDAY AI EDIT: okay so the last few paragraphs were missing (this is what I get for trying to prepare ahead and then forgetting to check until the fic was posted OOPS). They should be here now, though!
Send this to the 12 nicest people you know or who seem to have a good heart and if you get 5 back you must be pretty awesome.
AWWW <3 just for this you get a tiny spoiler for your bday gift :) “I was wondering when you’d come in.” Allen teased, leaning in close to the mirror to finish his eyeliner. “I could hear your breathing.” He turned his head ever so slightly to the side to look at him and Kanda was struck again by how much love was in those mismatched eyes. Not only that, but how all of it could be directed at him.
15 - Moving in together [Marie/Miranda]
not too sure about this one but here you go <3 (again RP-verse) wc: 835–It started on a Friday. “Is it just me or is there something different about Miranda lately?” Daisya asked, plopping down on Marie’s large beanbag chair with little finesse. “She hasn’t been over a lot lately, is she plannin’ something?” Marie kept folding the laundry he’d just finished, not even bothering to look in Daisya’s direction. “Mm why do you think that?” “Oh, you know, she’s been kinda…” Daisya snapped his fingers. “What’s the word I’m lookin’ for? Skittish? Yeah! She’s been droppin’ stuff more, and whenever she does come over she’s been talkin’ to Tiedoll a lot.” Marie didn’t have to have eyes to tell that Daisya was grinning.“You know just because I can’t see you doesn’t mean I can’t tell you’re grinning from ear to ear.” Daisya huffed. “Then does that mean–”“She’ll tell me when she’s ready.” “But–” “Out. Unless you want to help me finish folding these boxers?” Daisya made a disgrunted huff before stomping out of the room.–On Saturday Kanda asked: “What’s wrong with Miranda?” He sounded worn out, like he’d just come back from a run. “She hasn’t told me anything, why?” “I just saw her at Link’s bakery.” Kanda answered, taking a few seconds to drink from a plastic bottle before continuing, “She seemed shocked to see me there, and then she kind of left after I got my order so I couldn’t ask her if she’d be by for dinner, but–” “She hasn’t told me she wouldn’t be.” Marie shrugged one shoulder. “I wouldn’t worry.” Thankfully, unlike Daisya, Kanda dropped it.–Sunday Miranda came for dinner. It was just as eventful as it always was, especially when Tiedoll took it upon himself to invite Komui and Lenalee, Bak, and Bak’s parents. There was always copious amounts of arguing, either between Komui and Bak, or between Bak and Kanda. It was nice to hear, though. But one voice was missing from the crowd. It took him a moment to realize that Miranda was being unusually quiet. “Is everything alright?” He asked, squeezing her hand comfortingly. “Y-Yes!” She sounded nervous. “I just, um, I-I would–when everyone leaves–c-can I ask you something?” Marie nodded his head, “Of course. Anything.” Maybe the crowd was bothering her? That had to be it. –It took nearly three hours for Bak, Komui, and Lenalee to leave. It took even longer for Daisya to finally get dragged off somewhere by Chaoji. If Marie hadn’t known any better he’d say they were making themselves scarce for a reason. But he wasn’t going to jump to conclusions. No.“C-Can we go to your room?” Miranda asked after a moment. He could hear the waver in her voice, but also –was she excited? He squeezed her hand again and nodded his head. This time he let her lead the way. She knew her way around this house like it was a second home to her (she’d also stayed over more times than he could count. It made his heart swell a little thinking of how much–better she’d gotten over the last two years.God it had been two years already?Time really did fly by. When they finally entered his room he could hear her lock the door behind him. Instead of asking he sat down on the bed. “What is it?” He asked when she didn’t come sit beside him like usual.“A-Actually.” Oh. Now the nervousness was back. “I was wondering, Marie. I-I was looking at…well, you know I was looking at Apartments, right?” Marie nodded his head. He could hear her shuffle closer. “I actually…I found a nice one.It was on the bottom floor! Not too far from where I work. I know it might not be…” She hesitated here, as though she was searching for her words, but a few short seconds later she found them and sat down next to him on the bed. “It may be too soon but did you want to come with me when I look at it on Monday? …Not literally, ah, look. But. I’d like to see how you move around in the space. If–If it’s easy for you?” Marie was about to ask why, but honestly? He wasn’t stupid. He knew why she was asking.“Alright.” He looped an arm around her waist and he could feel the tension seep out of her. “Is this why you’ve been nervous these past few weeks?” He felt her nuzzle into the side of his neck and his smile widened. “You…would you like me to live there with you?”He felt her nod.“Then the answer is yes.” After all it had been two years and he wasn’t ‘looking’ for anyone else. He kind of doubted he ever would. “You know,” Miranda murmured after a while of easy silence, reaching out to grab one of his hands so he could feel the smile on her face. “I don’t know why I was so nervous about asking.”
22 - Slow dancing [Lavi/Lenalee]
…So. This one is definitely on the more platonic end, but I tried! (Also set in our RP-verse) wc: 572Lavi’s first clear memory of Lenalee was the smell of blood. The smell of blood and a girl lying in a hospital bed crying, but not seeing. It had been. Shocking wasn’t the word for it, but it had definitely jarred him into feeling something. Something he wasn’t used to feeling. (And at this point in time, in his life, feeling things didn’t come easy. He still had to remind himself this wasn’t normal). When she stopped smelling so much like blood and antiseptic and began to shuffle-walk-trip down hallways –all in attempts to walk on already-battered legs. That made Lavi feel something too. Something stronger.(She had a friend. A boy, named Kanda, who with his long hair almost had Lavi thinking he was a she but no. He’d been corrected on that very, very quickly. He got under her shell though, in a way Lavi couldn’t. He could make her smile. Lavi felt something then, too. It felt something like loneliness. And he hated it). When she finally stopped stumbling and could stand on her own–that was when Lavi tried to talk to her. Again. He’d tried before, but this time he could see a little bit of light in her eyes. She wasn’t a lost cause. So he’d try. (Try like that other boy did).He asked her if she could dance. He remembered the look on her face. Shocked, then disbelieving, then anger. He hadn’t meant to make her angry. “You have pretty legs.” He’d said. And that had made her freeze. “A dancers legs. They’ll be longer when you grow up!” He’d tried to smile. She did him a favor by believing it. Then he’d asked again. “Do you know how to dance?” This time she answered with a shake of her head.“I can teach you.”Granted he also didn’t know very much. He wasn’t that much older, and his balance still wasn’t that good. But it was something. He wanted to try. And she’d accepted. They went slowly at first. Basic steps, small maneuvers, and slowly but surely she got better. The bandages started disappearing ,and she smiled more, when he twirled her around. She even sometimes brought that boy along (who sometimes also brought another boy). It was the four of them and they were happy, often pairing off, only to switch, because they were kids and who cared if two boys danced together? Some time later those bandages were entirely gone and an older man came by. He came one day when they were practicing, mid-twirl and then suddenly she was sobbing and running, steady on her feet, into the older man’s arms. Then he’d introdued himself. “My name is Komui. I’m Lenalee’s older brother. Are you Lavi?” When he nodded his head Komui smiled (they shared the same smile), and said: “Thank you. That dance was beautiful.” That was the first time anyone had ever truly thanked him. –“Do you remember when you used to dance with me?” Lavi turned to look at Lenalee, startled. She wasn’t looking at him. Actually, she wasn’t looking much of anywhere. Her eyes were still swollen from crying and it made Lavi’s heart hurt. “Yeah. Of course I do.” He answered. He didn’t much feel like smiling either. “Why?” “Could you dance with me again?” She held a hand out. “For old times sake? I think I–I think I really need it.”

“So you’re saying he hasn’t spoken a single word since he came here.” Tiedoll glanced through the door’s window, at the silent boy on the bed. One wouldn’t be able to tell now, but just mere hours ago the boy had been covered in bruises and cuts. He’d even been told that the boy had two fractured ribs and a sprained wrist, but those too looked perfectly healed on the X-Ray that the doctor had pinned up.“That’s correct.” The doctor hesitated, looking down at his clipboard before giving a meaningful cough. “I don’t know how much longer we can keep the…others…from him. While we’re used to getting interesting cases such as this–” “I see. If that’s a problem then I’ll take him.” The doctor jerked back at Tiedoll’s tone, staring at him for a moment in disbelief. Tiedoll raised an eyebrow at him. “That’s…not an issue, is it doctor?” Quickly the doctor shook his head. “Good!” Tiedoll smiled in relief. “Well then, may I see my newly adopted son? Or are you going to keep me waiting?”“But are you sure…?” “Yes.” Again that too wide smile. “Or are you forgetting I was the one who brought him here.” “But he’s violent, and temperamental and–” “–He’s grieving.” Tiedoll snapped, voice cold. “Now will you do your job or will I have to report you?” The doctor jerked back as Tiedoll turned the nob to the patient, Kanda Yuu’s, room. He was only a boy. Tiedoll sighed heavily and walked over to the bedside, not caring if the doctor followed him. “Good morning.” He said to what was essentially a shell. Maybe one day there would be life in him. He could see it now. He’d probably be hard to handle, yes, with a fiery temper and a chilling rage. But he could also also see a deep warmth, too. He wanted to see that boy smile. So he placed a hand on the boy’s shoulder and murmured, “I know we’ve met before but how would you like to come home with me after this?” The boys icy gaze turned towards him and maybe Tiedoll was imagining things, but he thought he saw that spark of life in their depths. It wasn’t much, but it was a start.
