Looking back to my time spent with B-17 waist gunner, Frank "Bud" Buschmeier. Frank flew 34 combat missions and on July 29, 1944 was shot down and barely survived being killed by a German civilian (who were extremely fanatic and almost always killed American fly boys that were shot down), luckily two elderly German soldiers armed with MP-40s took control of the situation. He was a prisoner of war until May, 1 1945 when he was liberated. Read a detailed account of the day he was shot down on his profile at www.theygaveitall.org - #thememoriestrunk
