Nahyuta but Fashion
A silver parachute drifts slowly to the ground. A medium sized box is attached with a note from mentor Glitter Caulder. Inside is a full canteen. The note reads: “Stay hydrated.”
The parachute landed on the ground before he even got to it. In all honesty, he wasn’t expecting a present from the sponsors just yet - especially since his performance in the arena hadn’t been stunning the way at least his trainer from the Academy would have expected. He even got injured because of a little girl from a lesser district. It was embarrassing, even if he did better afterwards and was part of the Career pack - so respected and well seen at least in One that he knew his grandmother was proud to walk down the district’s streets if she dared to step away from the television. But she probably dared. She usually did. Yet, he was the one to go pick up the silver box, even if it was for somebody else - he reckoned Cerise, considering how blindingly charming she had been - and he was the one to suffer the initial shock of realizing it was his gift. His very own first gift from people who were rooting for him. His ego was in a rocket launched to the sky and suddenly, he wondered if it was really that impossible for him to get used to these sweet forms of flattery. Yes, he left his district picturing his death and already planning an escape from his life, but would a new beginning really hurt? What if winning was going to change everything? The thought gave him chills.
He realized then that he didn’t even have to stick around his grandmother and remain tied to her, the bad news, the terror of a woman who wasn’t even planning on slowly killing everybody she loved and made him feel weak and worthless just with a glance. The realization stinged the way the bees did too earlier. Suddenly, winning didn’t feel like such a burden. Reading Glitter’s note, a smile tried him. They had water, but the canteen was unarguably better. He appreciated even the seemingly useless gift and it wasn’t it, but the symbol it represented that drove him further. Felix felt powerful and closer to a victory he hadn’t even imagined before.
But then he glanced over where Cerise was talking to Marcia and Rye - if they were still talking; sometimes silence cured the arena sickness better, he found out - and realized that only one would be able to live and although they were actors putting up a great show, something in him stung. After all, even actors got attached to their co-actors if they were under enough pressure, and truth be told, Felix never learned how to deal with emotions and feelings, and nothing made sense or was noticeably there, but the thought of becoming victor remained conflicting, except for a different reason.
((I've just noticed something about Mr. Retinz in AA:6...don't he look like a mix between Johnny Depp and Robert Downey Jr.?))
