[undertale ranting intensifies]
One of the most important things Undertale has for those of us making art to learn, I think, is that what matters is what the work does to you, the human being.
Undertale calls you into a world, grabs your hand, and walks you right into loving people that aren’t real. But in a very important sense, these people are real. They’re part of the writer’s mind, so really, Toby has made you love him.
And there you have something important Undertale has to teach you about art: art is about making someone feel something, and great art can make you feel that way no matter where it comes from, or what limitations it has been pushed through to get it to you. Great art connects you to someone. It can be intimate and comforting or alienating and troubling, but it’s always about feeling something.
To make great art, all you have to do is feel something. Everything else is craft.
