Saturday, 8 February 2020: Mourning the obliteration of the Elevator Court in Macy*s Brooklyn, formerly the Abraham & Straus Department Store headquarters. While Fulton Street is still the center of shopping in Downtown Brooklyn, the classic department stores are all gone. A&S was here for over a century, and the Elevator Court was the main thoroughfare of the store. A giant rotating Christmas Tree was suspended from the ceiling of the Elevator Court during the holidays, amazing adults and children alike. It was always a thrill to take the express to the 8th floor. But now there are only 4 shopping floors in Macy*s Brooklyn and the need for elevators, especially ones manually operated, is past. A series of centrally located escalators now replaces the rows of elevators. #Macys #MacysBrooklyn #AandS #AbrahamAndStraus #Brooklyn #DowntownBrooklyn #FultonStreet #FultonMall #Bklyn (at Macy's) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8VSZXrBHXE/?igshid=1iqrvx4izh40e
