This little pile of trinkets are the “historical relics” for a game I’m calling Rewriting History. We will be doing this as a youth activity at Castle Wars. It’s similar to telephone and is meant to illustrate how people come to incorrect conclusions about past cultures.
The first player chooses an item (blindly) from the bag. They then have 10 seconds to memorize as much about the item as possible. Then we start telephone: player 1 describes it to player 2, player 2 describes it to player 3, and so on until we go around the circle. At the end we compare the description to the item.
But! The game has a twist during some rounds, with special roles. One player may be told to intentionally change the color or size of the item in the description (a historian with an agenda or preconceived ideas). One player may only be able to draw the item, not describe it with words (sometimes we only have pictures of the historical artifacts and no extant pieces or descriptions). One player Always Checks Sources and can ask the original person who picked the item one question about it.
Anyway, I am excited and just wanted to show off the game!
