E! was originally an initialism of Entertainment Television is an American pay television channel that is owned by the NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment Group division of NBCUniversal, all owned by Comcast.E! was originally launched on July 31, 1987, as “Movietime”. It was a service that aired movie trailers, entertainment news, event and awards coverage, and interviews as an early example of a national barker channel. The channel was founded by Larry Namer and Alan Mruvka. Early Movietime hosts included Greg Kinnear, Paula Abdul, Katie Wagner, Julie Moran, Suzanne Kay (daughter of Diahann Carroll), Mark DeCarlo, Sam Rubin and Richard Blade.
Producer Al Masini came up with the idea for “Entertainment Tonight” in 1980, but was not sure that it would be a success. Masini’s purpose was not to only create a daily news program in the style of traditional television newscast, he wanted to add a but of glamour and glitz of the celebrity world/culture that seemed to attract society. Another purpose was to draw the audience’s attention for television affiliations that are struggling and for independent radio stations around the United States.

Additionally, entertainment has economical perks such as the wide area of job availability for the locals. In the Pacific Islands, it could be ranging from anything to a festival performer to an announcer on the radio or even an actor on TV serials. There is also the need for sports entertainment such as soccer and rugby thus players are hired to play the sport which in turn becomes a scenarios of a mutual benefit. News would be expanded to one hour starting on October 25, 2010. E! is known for its live red carpet pre-shows for the industry's three prominent award shows, the Primetime Emmy Awards, the Golden Globe Awards, and the Academy Awards, and were famous for their fashion critiques by Joan Rivers; Rivers also hosted post-awards specials under the title Fashion Police, which became a regular weekly series in September 2010. In April 2017, it was announced that E! had acquired the People's Choice Awards, which will move to the network from CBS in 2018 with a new November scheduling. The network promoted that the show would be given an "end-to-end" experience that will leverage its existing experience in awards show coverage.

On September 21, 2010, E! announced the cancellation of The Daily 10. At this time, it was announced that E! News would be expanded to a one-hour format. The expansion became effective beginning on October 25, 2010, making it one of two entertainment news programs to have weekday editions that air in an hour-long format, HLN's Showbiz Tonight being the other. The series also debuted a new news set and began broadcasting in 16:9 high definition, downconverted to 4:3 letterbox (with pillarboxing for 4:3 SD video) on the channel's primary SD feed. Some talent previously featured on The Daily 10, including Catt Sadler, Clinton Sparks and Robbie Laughlin, were integrated into E! News, along with the addition of a segment called The Daily 10 Take, along with the inclusion of some former Daily 10 segments.
E! News does not produce episodes on major holidays, including Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, with special pre-taped programs, the show's weekend edition or other E! programs airing instead, depending on where the holiday falls.
In December 2017, Catt Sadler, left her anchoring duties on E! News as well as the E! network due to unequal pay between herself and her co-anchor, Jason Kennedy.In a statement to PEOPLE, an E! spokesperson said on behalf of the network and Kennedy, “E! compensates employees fairly and appropriately based on their roles, regardless of gender.
