Harun-ul- Rashid was the fifth Abassid Caliph(786-809) A.D. Harun was son of Al Mansur, third Abassid Caliph. Harun-ul-Rashid ruled the Abassid Caliphate during the Golden age of Islam. This period is idealized in the famous The Thousand and One Nights but not only due to its wealth but attitude towards knowledge. As the translation movement was expedited, the works from Greeks, Indians, Romans and Chinese civilizations was translated. Harun-ul Rashid used to pay handsomely to scientists, translators and scholars and kept him in his court. Harun-ul-Rashid established the grand Bait-ul-Hikmah , House of Wisdom in Baghdad, where many scientists and scholars of the age would study in the future and enlighten the world by being the beacon of learning and advancing human thought in their respective fields. Harun-ul-Rashid formed Abassid's alliance with the Chinese Tang Dynasty. Harun-ul-Rashid received a Frankish mission offering friendship. Harun sent gifts with the emissaries, including a clock to Charlemagne's court where it was considered magic due to its hourly mechanical movements foretelling time.
