Latest UTAS assignment is “how to analyse a photo” I have chosen personal reflection as my chosen method.
AT a quick glance of the photo you can see a shadow silhouette with two red lights back lighting the subject.
For me the photo means much more than the eye can see. This was part of an art exhibition at Dark Mofo. You go into a dark warehouse with earphones on to protect your ears from the huge subwoofers that make you fell like they are holding you up and make the room shake. Lights flash around the warehouse at different distances to you making you feel like the room was shrinking and growing and it was an amazing experience.
What I like most about the photo is it really makes the viewer guess whats happening and unless you were their you would not be able to guess where or what this is. I feel that people would say it looks semi commercial with a slightly creepy feel because of the silhouette looking back at the photographer.
I placed the subject on the right hand vertical line and placed to two lights in the centre of the frame creating repetition and just capturing the pattern inside the lights.
Latest UTAS assignment is experimenting with the direction of light and the quality of light.
This photo I took of a church in Hobart I think is a good example of soft light. There wasn't any clouds to defuse the light it was at sunrise so the light wasn't very harsh.
My influencers
Most of my influencers are on you tube (I'm more of a visual learner)
Digitalrev tv is a great channel for product reviews, Tips and techniques.
Matt granger is an Australian photographer who runs monthly competitions on Flickr (with prizes and he gives feedback). Matt also has a you tube channel with tips and techniques.
Fro Knows photo is another you tube based photographer who is more of a event photographer with more tips and techniques on his channel.
as mentioned before Stu Gibson is a Tassie local and is another inspiration to me. Also Wolfgang Glowacki is another great Tasmanian based landscape photographer.
Instagram is another great resource for inspiration, Follow tags like #instatassie, #discovertasmania for some great Tasmanian photography inspiration.
Thanks for reading
Stuart Gibson is an internationally recognised photographer from Tasmania, Australia. With a focus on surf, landscape and aerial photography.
Stuart gibson is a huge inspiration for me because we have similar interests being Tasmania, Surf, landscape and aerial photography.
Take a look at some of his work. looking through his photos you notice most of it follows the basic rules of photography like rule of thirds, leading lines etc but like most good photographers he often breaks those rules and gives a new perspective.
