Day 5 of the #abookaday challenge Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources by Marcel Pagnol Technically two books but one story. I first saw the film of Jean de Florette one Christmas and I loved it. I’d always rather read the book before I see the film but in this case it was the film that inspired me to read the book and I wasn’t disappointed. In fact, the film is a wonderful adaptation and I highly recommend watching it. The soundtrack will be familiar to some as an old Stella Artois advert (the one with the red carnations). This is a story reminiscent of a Shakespearean tragedy. I tend to read this when I go on sunny beach holidays because feeling the sun on my skin transports me to the Central Massif of France. I guess I like reading to be a complete sensory experience, I couldn’t read this book in the winter for example, it just wouldn’t feel right. Sometimes there are certain albums that I listen to incessantly when I’m reading a book and whenever I hear the music it reminds me of the story. When I was studying French (a very long time ago) I started reading this in the original French, I didn’t get very far! . . . . . #abookadaychallenge #bibliophile #livetoreadreadtolive #marcelpagnon #jeandeflorette #manondessources #frenchliterature #thefilmwasjustasgoodasthebook #readthebookwatchthefilm #thisanxiousadventurer #digitalhumanbeans #stellaartois #reassuringlyexpensive https://www.instagram.com/p/BnmIVUEFiOS/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1p7nmsryc8lt8
