Y'all really need to go read the Hero's Guide series by Christopher Healy. It is one of the best books I've ever read and ahhhh it's so underappreciated!! There is literally only one work on ao3!(props to the author tho, for taking that leap into an empty fandom)
But I mean it's SOOO GOOD!!!
it's such a fresh and modern take on the fairytale princes. The whole concept of "the media romanticizes them" and they aren't all just called "Prince Charming", that they have actual lives and personalities- it's just 👌👌 not to mention the badass princesses. Like, Princess Lila anyone? She's badass af and so powerful!! The series is funny, it's hilarious and super quirky and I just,,, love it a lot? Prince Duncan is literally my spirit animal?!?! also the villain is hilarious, all of the characters, actually. All of the characters are unique and quirky and have such good growth and gah- it's such an amazing book. The writing and plot is more on the funny and juvenile side, but it's so rich and complex on a deeper level.
Go read the Hero's Guide to Saving Your Kingdom by Christopher Healy. You won't regret it.

I… guess i just have a thing for characters voiced by johnny young bosch who have alter egos with red eyes. bUT PLEASE APPRECIATE THIS PRECIOUS BOY,
“Oh for God’s sake,” Silver roars, his crutch scraping the planks as he turns heavily around. “Can’t you see that I’m doing this out of love, not of malice?”
The weight of the words presses against his chest from the outside, countered by his ragged breath, his hammering heart.
“You’ll forgive me,” comes the reply, flat and dark and tired from the shadows, barely audible over the idle clink of manacles, “if I don’t feel particularly loved at the moment.”
A breath that is almost a laugh escapes Silver’s lungs and he collapses inwards, just a little. Just enough. “You will,” he says. “If not by me, then by him. And one of our worlds will be right again.”
