I’m glad! This comic has been a huge ongoing learning experience and when it FINALLY OCURED TO ME TOO that my lines didn’t always have to be black it blew my mind. Since a lot of portions are black and white, earlier there were a lot of moments where characters would just blend into these dark backgrounds. Because it didn’t occur to me there were better ways to make them stand out XD.

Art is fun in that way. Because there’s so many little ways you can bend and manipulate light and lines and shadows that may not be realistic but help your image pop.

Hey Wily, can you give some pointers on anatomy? I love how simple you make it look, so I was thinking you could give some great advice

Yeah! When doing a general sketch of a character, no matter how loose, it is pretty beneficial to use a couple of “landmarks”. For me I sometimes like drawing out the general shapes of the head, the collar bones, the shoulders,  the curve of the spine, and the hips and the joints regardless of how detailed the sketch is.

Elbows will be sorta on the same line as the belly button.

Wrists will always sorta be online with the crotch area. 

And these things are pretty consistent no matter how tall or short a character is.

That being said when you have a better foundation with anatomy, you learn how to push, and distort it without it looking super wonky =)

But anatomy is tricky. Just practice it a lot. I frequently have to make a dumb pose in a mirror, or need to track down a reference to remind myself how things work

Lately I've been learning to find inspiration and excitement in the difference in skill level between myself and artists I follow.

Instead of feeling inadequate and envious and self-pitying, I see the cool interactions they have and the collabs they do and the other talented people that recognize their work and go "Hey you're cool! Let's be cool together!" and I'm like Wow if I keep it up, that could be me someday~

It's a pretty cool feeling.

Did you use SketchUp for your Insomnia comic (some panels)? Because damn the perspective ofor all the furniture is on point.

I wish I knew how to use sketch up because it would save me 8000 years.

At some point I oughta do a tutorial on BSing one’s way through a background with architecture things, because I’m not as good at it as I think you guys think I  am. I’m just stubborn and will fight with it for a bazillion years.

(seriously. Someone send me all the sketchup tutorials. It looks like it makes life easier ;A;)

logging into my art blog is so refreshing omg, like it's really nice to be able to have an account with just one particular thing and all the recommended blogs that pop up are all art blogs too and it's so nice to look at other people's amazing drawings omg!! It's also really great having no pressure at all and just being able to dump posts and random things that I do, i actually really like having < 20 followers atm because it feels so free and like it doesn't really matter if something I post gets like 4 notes because it's mostly just for me to get my stuff out there and improve, and woooooo that means 4 actual people like what I have done!!!! I remember a few years ago I used to get kind of jealous seeing other people's really good art, but now for me it is just so nice and inspiring omg and it's just so nice to have a place where I can log in and have so much content and lots of tutorials and cool things to help me out right in front of me!

if you want to improve drawing I definitely recommend making a blog to post things, even stupid sketches just to keep track of how you are going and work on improving things, and also mainly to follow people, there are so many amazing blogs out there with so many unique styles, and it's so nice to be able to find more and more of them!

hh i'm falling back into same face syndrome and i need to Not Do That it's p easy and really fun to make up different faces for my ocs but when i draw fanart i just feel myself going to a default face u kno i put a ridiculous amount of time thinking of different noses tho i should start assigning different and weird noses to anime characters who were born without one that sounds really fun (i have a weird thing with noses don't look at me they are just so fun and can add so much t oa character's face idk i'm outtie)
