For the random writing asks +14, 17, 20, 21, 22, 24, 25! :-D
Thanks for asking @wordspin-shares! :)
14. What do you include in your character descriptions?
Honestly, I’ve always felt really weird about giving a character description in the story. My compromise has been dropping in different aspects at relevant story parts. So mentioning hair color when getting dressed or eyes when applying make up or something. Height or body type might be alluded in comparing themselves to others or if they have to borrow clothes.
17. How do you handle writer’s block?
It depends. Sometimes I just take a break from the project and wait for inspiration to come back. Other times, I switch to a different project. I used to limit myself to one story at a time, but I’ve found the changing between projects help. I think the pressure to get something done is gone if I can finishing something, so it’s less stressful going back to the one I was stuck on.
20. What is one thing you would never do in a story or to a character?
I would never kill off a pet. I’ve never been able to make it through a story where they killed off an animal or pet without sobbing (the two worst experiences were Where the Red Fern Grows and Foals in the Field, an Animal Ark book).
21. What do you do if you come to a fork in the road (where your story could go one of two different ways)?
I would choose the path that best fits with what I’ve established so far, especially if I’ve already posted chapters. If I haven’t posted anything yet, I might be tempted to rework the story to fit the more interesting path.
22. Do you “write what you know” or not?
Yes and no. I tend to bring things to my OC’s from what I’ve (or friends have) experienced in real life. But I do sometimes include things that I had to research (usually character background or setting-type things)
24. Do you research things in your story? If so, how?
Not much for fanfic, but I’ve done a lot of research for an original story I’m working on. I basically bought a lot of books. Some where helpful and some weren’t. For fanfic, the most I’ve done is quick Google searches (normally to the fandom wikia page) to confirm something.
25. How do you figure out character motivation and backstory?
Like a lot of fanfic writers, I usually have a few scenes that I want to write and then I work backwards to figure out how we get there. Part of that is determining what kind of character would in end up in that situation and why. That really helps with the backstory (plus personality), which then leads to the motivation.
My first OCs were for Harry Potter: Dani and Alex Riddle (Yay for the Voldemort kid trope lol). The story was crap. I wrote when I was 14 and it was my first fic. I redid it in 2010. The newer version is better (I think), but not great. Both versions are still up on FF.Net. I don’t recommend reading the first version unless you want to be miserable. It’s only kept up so I can see where I started.
2. Do you have a personal favorite among your OCs?
I’ve never thought about it, but I guess it’s a tie between Gwen Ashwood (TVD) and my main character for an original story I’m working on. A lot more effort has gone into developing them and their stories than other OC’s, so it’s more fun to write them.
5. If you could make only one of your OCs popular/known, who would it be?
I think Gwen Ashwood. I get the most traffic for her stories (Second Chances and Imperfectly Bound), so I guess people enjoy/would enjoy reading about her more than the others.
10. Introduce an OC with a complicated design.
Hmm, I guess I can talk about my Supernatural OC, who I’ll probably never write about because I’ve never figured out a story for her.
So her name is Joan Hale. She comes from a long line of hunters, so her motivation is more of protecting people than any sort of revenge. After her family is killed by demons, she seeks refuge at Bobby Singer’s where she meets the boys. At first she and the boys clash over their approaches (they’re an angsty mess; she feels for the victims but keeps her distance) to hunting, but eventually are able to work together. Things become more complicated as she gets caught up in their drama. She’s basically punished for being their ally, which leads to a change in her approach to hunting and her views on monsters and humanity (and maybe not for the better). (Also wanted to up the drama by having her date Dean and Cas at different times, lol)
24. If you could meet one OC of yours, who would it be and why?
Anya Thorn because she’s been so difficult to write for. Maybe it would help me remember why I started her story in the first place.
I was tagged by @wordspin-shares. Thank you :). This was nice to find in my notifications after a really long day.

SUMMARY:
Jenn was raised in Eastcliff by her single father and grew up with a younger sister, Arielle.
Jenn’s mother had her at a young age when she wasn’t ready to have kids. When Jenn was ten, her mother got pregnant once again. She gave birth to little Arielle and then left the family shortly after that. It was clear to that her mother simply couldn’t handle the life that motherhood brought. Jenn remembers her mother, but she pretends as if she doesn’t.
Her father was a successful chef who managed and owned a restaurant that later became a small chain. There’s about four locations alongside the coast of Southern California.
At 18, Jenn was quick to leave the small town of Eastcliff and go to school at UCLA to pursue a bachelors degree in fine art. Her father wished she would pursue business or continue to perfect her culinary skills (which she had excelled in effortlessly), but her true love was art. He didn’t stand in the way of it.
Being in the city versus Eastcliff exposed her to a whole new life. Jenn began to find herself and make her hobbies passions - she had always grown up roller skating just about anywhere she went. In college, she decided to join a Roller Derby League.
Living an alternative lifestyle felt natural to her. She spent the weekends getting bruises in derby and her nights being a tattoo apprentice. Though she was great at fine art, tattoo art began to capture her attention.
After she graduated college, she landed a full time position at the tattoo shop she was apprenticing at and became a full fledged artist. She also continued derby in the city and was given the nickname ‘jenny-gonna-clock.’ It felt only right to often skate out into the rink to “Jenny From The Block”
Jenn was pretty happy having fun, living her own creative life in Los Angeles (even if it was a bit messy and chaotic from time to time). But reality came crashing down on her quick - the sudden death of her father.
One moment she was excelling at tattoo art, partially living with her boyfriend at the time, and spending all her free time having fun - and then the very next moment she was suddenly her 14 year old sister’s sole guardian.
Jenn had to deal with the aftermath of her father’s death, a car accident no one could’ve seen coming. Jenn moved back to Eastcliff to take care of her sister and handle everything her father left behind. She finally had to become an adult.
Dealing with his father’s businesses, in an almost panic-like state, Jenn decided to sell them. She knew she needed the money to keep up with their beach house in Rockport as well as helping her sister succeed. Her sister didn’t agree with selling the restaurants, but she knew where Jenn’s heart was.
It has been one year since her father’s death and both Jenn and Arielle are still learning how to live in a world without him. Jenn landed a job at Element Tattoo, and though she had a lot of growing up to do, she would never give up rollerskating. She juggles her passions with the need to take care of her sister. Though it’s a struggle, she knows there’s balance in it somewhere.
B) A pairing — platonic, romantic, or sexual — that you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind.
I guess Sam/Eileen from supernatural. I never really thought about it, but the fandom stuff was so cute.
K) What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?
Caroline Forbes from The Vampire Diaries. In my opinion, she’s one of the few characters that actually grows (for the better) on that show, and the writers were extremely unfair to her.
N) Name 3 things you saw more of in your main fandom (or fandom of choice).
More acceptance of different ships (they’re either never going to happen or the show is over so the battles are pointless).... that’s all I can think of at this moment. lol
W) A trope which you are virtually guaranteed to hate in any fandom.
A misunderstanding that stems from hearing only part of a conversation.
X) A trope which you are almost certain to love in any fandom.
Enemies to friends to lovers (angst is stressful but fun)
when u get this u have to answer with 5 things u like about yourself, publicly. then, send this ask to 10 of your favorite followers (non-negotiable, positivity is cool)
Even though I’m an introvert, I'm getting better at putting myself out there to meet new people.
I’m a total nerd: I love talking about notebooks and planners.
I’m able to maintain friendships even though it can be years without me seeing (or sometimes talking) to people
I’m good at considering other’s perspectives (always room for improvement though)
....I can’t think of fifth, so we’ll have to settle for four. Thanks for the ask!
