Jo/J3 + remember me by dove cameron
Insp: Please remember me like this: beautiful and talking shit. Cause things get ugly way too quick, and right now we're just so perfect
No shoes dancing 'round your living room, pulling off my t-shirt putting on a show for you
Content Warnings: talks of physical abuse; nudity (this isn’t a sexual scene but towards the end Jo is almost entirely nude with the boys checking her out)
When JJ got to John B’s house, he found the boy sitting on his couch in his usual cargo shorts and open shirt, his bandana nowhere to be found. He didn’t even blink when JJ entered, and when the blond followed his gaze, he understood why.
Jo Clarke, John B’s new roommate and JJ’s sort-of-ex, was sitting on his windowsill. She was wearing a large tank top, the strap slipping down her narrow shoulder — it was one of his, JJ realized after a moment — and her legs, one folded up to her chest and the other hanging down, were bare. Her dark hair was pulled into a messy ponytail, held up by John B’s favourite bandana, and loose strands fell into her eyes as she bent forward to fiddle with the radio.
“Sup Princess?” JJ called, waving to John B as he approached the girl.
Jo scoffed, rolling her eyes as she leaned her head back against the window frame.
“Great answer,” he teased, turning to John B with a raised eyebrow.
“Something about Topper,” he shrugged.
“Top is a fucking bitch,” she spat. “Light me?”
JJ nodded passing her his already lit cigarette. She took a long drag, exhaling slowly before turning her head to face them properly.
“Top is just on his usual bullshit,” she explained. “Talking shit to the Kooks, spreading bullshit rumours that he knows aren’t true... keeps trying to corner me and pull the ‘you’re my sister now and I’m worried’ card.”
She took another drag, missing the worried looks that the boys exchanged.
“Like sure, Top, I’m sure you’re worried. Just like you were worried the first time your dad slammed his fist into my ribs, or any of the times I had to remove glass shards from my arm after shielding my head from his bottle. Sure. Good, brotherly concern.”
She trailed off, cigarette hanging loosely from her fingers as she stared out the window. JJ looked back at John B, who mirrored his look of concern with one of his own. They both knew how much Topper’s behaviour hurt her, but she almost never talked about the part he played in her running away.
They stayed quiet for a moment, waiting to see if she was going to say anything else, and JJ was sure that he wasn’t the only one appreciating how beautiful she looked, almost glowing in the morning sun. He could have stayed watching her forever, but when he saw her press the burning end of the cigarette to her thigh without flinching — seemingly without even realizing it — he knew that he had to do something.
He grabbed the radio and the cigarette before he knew what he was doing. Jo blinked, looking at him like she’d forgotten that he was there. He smirked at her, fiddling with the dial until he found one of the pop stations that he knew she loved.
Vaguely recognizing the song as one that Sarah often played while he was working, John B took a swig from the beer bottle that sat forgotten by his feet. He pushed himself up and made his way over to Jo, handing her the bottle.
She took it with a small smile, taking a gulp before passing it over to JJ. As soon as her hands were empty, John B was grabbing them and gently pulling her to her feet. Eyebrows scrunched, she let him pull her off the window sill, and John B realized that, despite his previous assumption, she wasn’t wearing shorts under his shirt. Her long legs were bare all the way up to the hem of his shirt and it was only once she was fully standing that he could see a flash of black underwear underneath. Judging by the way JJ’s eyes widened as he took another drink, he had noticed the same thing.
The brunet pulled her closer, reaching up to tangle a hand in her hair as he stole back his bandana. Her hair fell down in dark, messy waves, settling around her face like a curtain as she laughed. Finally she pushed the hair from her face, swatting lightly at John B’s chest and stealing another sip from the beer bottle.
The song changed suddenly, and Jo couldn’t fight her growing smile. She pulled herself out of John B’s hold with a smirk, turning to grab the radio from JJ and turning up the volume.
Both boys watched as her bad mood visibly melted away, leaving behind the vivacious hellion they’d both grown to love.
Oh don't you dare look back
Just keep your eyes on me
I said you're holding back
She said shut up and dance with me
As the lyrics picked up, Jo spun away from the both of them, bare feet silent on the wood floors as she danced around on her tip toes. JJ couldn’t take his eyes off of her, and he was sure that John B was in the same boat.
Watching Jo dance was like being hypnotized, not that JJ had ever been hypnotized. But he figured it was probably not too different from the way he couldn’t pull his eyes off of Jo’s swaying hips.
If that wasn’t already hypnotizing enough, he would have been screwed by now. His jaw dropped slightly when Jo reached for the hem of her shirt — of his shit, that she had apparently stolen.
Both boys froze, unblinking, as Jo’s bright smile turned into a teasing smirk, mischief dancing in her blue eyes. She took her time pulling off the shirt, revealing that no, she wasn’t wearing a bra underneath.
John B’s mouth was dry as he forced himself to swallow, unable to look away from the pale expanses of skin that she was revealing. It wasn’t the first time he’d seen her without a shirt — a peril of living together — but it took his breath away every time.
And seeing her there in that moment, almost naked in his living room, glowing golden in the morning sun, dancing without a care in the world; JJ watching beside him, John B felt at peace for what might have been the first time since his dad disappeared.
Send me a song or lyric and an OC/ship, and I’ll write a drabble inspired by it
