Hii dear AJ,how are you?!I was rewatching IPK and this scene struck me,and I'm surprised I have never noticed it before.. When the Raizada's go out on that infamous movie picnic, Khushi accidentally says "Arnav-ji" instead of "Salman-ji" and then quickly corrects it. That was soo so adorable, haha. But my question to you is, do you wish Khushi stanned someone else, instead of her Salman-ji? Or was the Salman-ji fangirling actually relevant for the Canon? Sorry if this is too silly (1)
But I kind of always wished Khushi stanned SRK,just for the DDLJ,KKHH and K3G references we'd have gotten. Have I crossed all the lines of silliness with this ask? I'm sorry. Love you and take care,Fathima :) (2)
Hey Fathima <3,
I’m doing well love how about you?
To answer your ask, yes! I so wish she stanned someone like SRK because (1) probably not as problematic as Salman (2) SRK is famous for being referred as the ideal romantic lead (so matches Khushi’s hopeless romantic dreams)
The writers wove in aspects of her stanning very well though. From her ringtone, to little posters, Khushi’s Didi Tere Jethji flirt-dance performance for Arnav, Arnav dancing on a Salman song for Khushi, making Shyam have a Salman-esque entry - all incredibly well put. I loved Shyam having a Salman entry because it was a great distinction of what we perceive to be heroic versus the ugly reality.
My problem with Salman is not with his filmography. I think if we just look at his films, even I love a bunch of those - in some random corner I would like to have an ‘Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan’ moment or even be random flirter with a pottery dude moment (Dabangg). My issue is that they idolize ‘Salman Khan’ as the perfect romantic partner/dream husband.
No
When Khushi went “Salman keeps a vrat for all of his heroines” I literally made a face of distaste. A line needed to be drawn because Salman Khan is not Prem.
If Khushi went “Prem from HSSH/HAHK would keep a vrat for Preeti/Nisha” I’d still get it because Prem was shown as loving/devoted but the fact that ‘Salman’ was decorated as ‘great bachelor, perfect lover’ didn’t sit well with me. Also Salman is definitely not known for having the healthiest relationships with any of his girlfriends so using him to compare with her husband is *huh*?
I like the way Nupur was in love with what Bollywood sold as romance. She was in love with the filminess and everything.
We have too much celebrity worship anyways :/ Like I get loving an actor immensely - my heart always skips for Barun and Sanaya - but I’m not blind in my love for them. They’re people, they might have their set of flaws, and I know the difference between reel and real. I wish they did the same for Khushi.
Also we got Khushi maturing over age - her fixation with Salman decreased the more she faced the real world (I love her dialogue when she tells Payal that they were so gullible to have believed childhood romance fantasies). But then you know with bad writing Khushi’s blind fixation with Salman came back in full force.
Ugh
Her telling sorry to Salman because she became “paraayi” just didn’t sit well with me at all (totally not soch nayi cause it’s not adorable to think you’re becoming paraayi post wedding, even if the woman is smiling and goofing about it - soch nayi is Khushi excited for her wedding and not an ounce of pressure/hesitation)
In short, I have no problem with Khushi stanning someone but I wish:
- It was someone other than Salman
- It was a character instead of an actual human being (understand the different between reel and real if you’re being obsessed with someone)
- Wasn’t blind about her stanning (if stanning a real human)
But then it’s just my opinion and it’s no way me judging people who stan real people. I love Adam Driver too so I get it. But just... don’t be blind about it. Accept your ideal stars can have flaws.
Lol this is becoming a rant....
Thanks for asking!
Love,
- AJ
