Hunting for shoes aside, what do you think Spike would be doing in 2017? "In 2017, Spike would be making sweet love to Buffy Summers! I think eventually, with enough time, Spike – since he has a soul – would mature into a vampire who would be right for her. I don't think that he was the right pick for her while we were doing the series. But I think give it enough time to grow up and he would make a very good partner for her.

About My Spike
After Spike came back (in Angel), he never told Buffy he'd come back. He didn't know how she would handle it, if she'd be upset or anything. Over the years, he's periodically kept an eye on her, but hasn't let her know.
He still loves her very deeply but knows Buffy has probably had other lovers since him and doesn't know if she'd still feel the same about him after so many years.
So, instead of actually having courage and stepping out from the shadows and saying "Hi Buffy", he remains a bit of a coward and just watches her periodically.
However, his having a soul has changed him - with the help of Terran and Tolaas, Spike helps people himself. Even though he never really lets it show, and he doesn't act anything like Angel does, Spike is, in his own way, looking for some sort of redemption for everything he did while he didn't have a soul.
