Vernon
Vernon wasn’t always the way he was.
He was a completely normal person, you know.
He was bright, and loved, and happy.
Now, he was a prodigy. He had a massive understanding of quantum physics. Got him a nice scholarship to a great university too!
Unfortunately...
What he wanted, more than anything, was to help people and Pokemon.
Not exactly good for helping people, right?
Well
Like a Disney movie, his dream came true!
The Aether Foundation, one of the biggest conservation groups in the world, came to him. They wanted his help! They required his particular skill set!
He was over the moon!
The project was a long and complex one. They were trying to open a portal to another world, called Ultra Space. At least, that’s what he thought it was called?
It took years, but the project was completed. Finally, they were going to enter a completely new world! The breakthrough of the century!
...
Something went wrong. Terribly, horribly wrong.
There was a miscalculation. The gravitational stabilizers went haywire.
The portal was dragging everything around it into itself!
Just stay calm. Just hold on until it petered out. Don’t let go of the console. Don’t let go, don’t let go, don’t let go....
No. No. NO!
Can’t slip... Please no... please...
...
It was dark.
Yet it was light.
He was cold, so, so cold.
He was alone.
And yet...
Those things. They looked like jellyfish. They just floated around. Were they even alive?
He felt a sharp sting on the back of his neck.
...
They kept doing this.
Stinging over and over and over again.
Filling him with their toxins. Trying to make him protect them.
From those other things.
It hurt so much. He never got used to it. They never stopped.
More and more, his memories faded. His body ached. It tore and wore down, and changed.
His left eye went blind a long time ago. His hair had fallen out.
Was this Hell?
Did he do something wrong?
...
A light. For the first time in so long, he saw a light. Not one of the lights that he had grown accustomed to seeing there, no. This one felt nostalgic, almost like home. He had one before coming here, right?
He had to escape.
And he did.
The thing about Vernon is that he considers his behavior to be perfectly acceptable. In his eyes, telling people how much they suck is affection. He genuinely wants to be friends with people, but he’s hurting them so badly.
Let’s move on to someone else’s angst
Like Vernon
He still has nightmares about Ultra Space.
Medication really doesn’t help with the pain.
Seeing an Ultra Beast would likely trigger a panic attack from him.
Vernon has to sleep with several nightlights due to his nyctophobia.
Vernon’s theme.
Vernon’s team has a Tyranitar and a Gengar
yeah but hasnt anyone noticed vernon has grown much taller
