Allspeak (or whatever you want to call the god ability where Khonshu is heard in whatever language will be understood by the listener) goes both ways. He understands all languages (not just human) without having to spend time learning.
Technically, this means he should understand most slang, or at least get a general idea. Though it's more fun to imagine that he has to adjust to that over time like everyone else, deliberately updating his lexicon throughout different eras of humanity. Khonshu isn't above using slang/informal speech himself-- or his Allspeak being perceived that way, I suppose-- even if he usually sticks to talking like a pretentious asshole.
(Chris Wood, heterosexual, male) look who has returned home; it's Clayton (Cib) Foley, a 31 year old Crew Member on The Deadly Tide. He has been described as reliable and blunt. He has been tasked with watching over Jamison (Jamie) Schmid.
Hi everyone! My name is Shelly and I’m so excited to be part of the rp. Below is the outline I’ve written out for Clayton. I’ll eventually post a full bio for him but until then, if anyone has any connections they want to make or any plots, I’m always down for anything, just hmu!
He and his sister (younger than him by two years) were raised on a pirate ship. The two of them were taken from their when they were about 7 and 5 and were put to work on a small pirate ship.
They did the jobs that none of the other crew members would want to do or were considered too dangerous for a valuable member to do. The children were disposable assets to the ship.
Over the years, Clayton proved to be useful to the pirate crew and went from being an expandable helper monkey to a proper crew member.
His sister still dreamed of one day returning home and this made life difficult for her on the ship, as her brother quickly learned to forget that dream and soon turned against her.
The two separated years ago when Clayton was asked to join another crew and sometimes his curiosity makes him wonder what became of his sister.
Due to his upbringing, Clayton learned to put himself above all others but still respect the hierarchy of the ship. He is blunt and will say whatever is on his mind, often leading him into trouble.
He enjoys getting under people’s skin, especially when that person is beneath him or inferior to him.
NOTES: Biff is angry and tries some weather magic to regain his calm and focus. It doesn’t end the way he expects.
Stupid, bloody Sebastian.
He was angry and that was the thought that bounced around his mind every time his fist connected with the heavy bag. He wasn’t just angry about Sebastian’s reaction; he was angry about his own. He was angry that Sebastian hadn’t gotten back in touch. He was angry that his pride wouldn’t let him reach out. He was angry that they had to keep their relationship a secret because this particular miscommunication was only an issue because of assumed and necessary appearances and hadn’t they just had a discussion about how important it was to just talk about things?
He was breathing heavily by the time he left the gym. He’d pushed himself hard and he didn’t feel much better for it. There was a smattering of rain as he made his way towards his dorm and it gave him pause. His Mother had so fondly talked about giving your frustrations over to the storm; and allowing the water to cleanse you of negative feelings. Her advice and her voice didn’t come to mind as often nowadays and when it did, he made a point of paying attention. He changed direction, and began to fly with a little more haste and purpose in finding a quiet spot.
Claiming the storm.
He wasn’t sure if he could really call this a storm; it felt like there wasn’t nearly enough wind but his frustration raged like a storm. It was destructive and dangerous. He wasn’t prepared to let it get the better of him and he wouldn’t let it consume what he had with Sebastian.
The rain was falling a little heavier now; and it made finding somewhere quiet easier. He landed gracefully and sat cross-legged in the dirt. He rooted through his backpack and when he found an empty mason jar, he placed it in front of him; partially pressing it into the ground to give it some support. He closed his eyes and he waited. He tried to keep his breathing under control but he could already feel the wind whipping around him a little faster. He didn’t need to watch the rain fill the jar; he just trusted that it was happening.
<Tá mé ag éileamh an stoirm.>
He repeated the words under his breath with ease; falling back into his first language as though he’d never stopped speaking it. He thought about the things that made him angry; he pulled every fibre of frustration to the forefront and he could almost feel it bubbling just beneath the surface of his skin. He lost track of how long he sat there but when he opened his eyes, the rain had stopped. He hadn’t even noticed. The jar was full of water; clear and bright. He picked it up and held it over his head.
<Tabhair dom soiléireacht>
The water soaked him more than he thought it would. It chilled him. As the jar emptied, he breathed out deeply; a rush of air so strong that it rustled the trees around him.
There was a new kind of energy buzzing through him now; one he didn’t have a name for. He didn’t feel the peace he’d expected but weather magic was tricky; storm magic more than most. The trick with it was surrendering yourself to it; you could claim it but you couldn’t really control it. The test was in trusting it to guide you.
He became acutely aware of the weight of someone’s eyes on him. He turned his gaze to the right and made eye-contact with a pair of eyes so dark they were almost black. They sparkled.
He didn’t know what possessed him to do it but he spoke.
‘Hasn’t anyone ever told you it’s rude to watch someone from the trees?’
From the shrubbery, a large bear with vivid white fur emerged. If bears could smile, he’d swear that’s what this creature was doing. She, he knew it was a she, sat and kept her gaze fixed on him.
Probably the most famous myth Khonshu is involved in was playing Senet against Thoth, gambling five days worth of moonlight. (I've heard a couple different versions of it, that they played many times in a row and Thoth kept winning pieces of moonlight until he had enough for five, or it was all in one shot.) So, here's some thoughts I have about that:
- Khonshu likes Senet, and board games in general, although he rarely indulges it. Now and when he was part of the Ennead, he's usually too busy to justify doing much just for fun.
- That said, give him any excuse to play and he'll likely agree. I'm not saying he would've gambled the Earth on a Senet game with Ammit, I'm just saying it's a good thing she didn't offer.
- There were times, like during major festivals, where Khonshu was able/forced to take the stick out of his ass and unwind a little. He's played Senet at least once with most members of the Ennead during those times, and has played multiple more rounds with Thoth, who would be good at duping him into games by making them sound important when it was really just for fun. Probably played a good bit against Ammit as well.
- I don't actually think he's bad at Senet. I haven't decided what his win/loss ratio is against his fellow gods, but I think it'd be fair to say he's won more than lost. I don't think he's ever beaten Thoth though. (Wisdom god. Of course not.)
- He was a little butthurt about losing to Thoth at the time, but it directly lead to the births of Osiris, Set, Isis, and Nephthys. He's mostly glad it worked out that way, even if he didn't throw the game on purpose. (And even if he hates Osiris' guts these days.)
[To the benefit of like three people, here's some Dating Khonshu HCs I haven't put any thought into and are not in any coherent order.
These HCs assume the person is mortal for reasons, Khon's dynamics with another god would be a whole other list:
Obviously Khonshu isn't... a normal lover. He can't do a lot of normal dating stuff, especially not without looking like a crazy person in public, so you might just have to be okay with that. Start wearing a bluetooth headset and get used to looks.
Technically speaking he can (and absolutely will if you're an Avatar) accompany you places, and he's perfectly happy sitting and talking. He can kind-of eat if you perform a proper offering or know enough magic to transfer stuff to his plane of existence. You're not gonna split the check though
'Knowing the proper rites' makes a lot of things easier. He's willing to teach
Him tricking you into becoming an Avatar or designating your personal living space as a temple that he can show up in Any Time or being able to see out of your eyes at all times is always a risk and he definitely won't tell you how to undo it for free.
If you're not also his Avatar then Jake will almost certainly end up third-wheeling at some point whether or not Khonshu even wants him there. If you want to text Khonshu it's probably going to go through Jake.
Technically you can contact him any time via prayer though
He will randomly drop blessings if you give him offerings. May or may not say so in advance.
Relationship works better if you're capable of hurting him somehow or have some kind of leverage, lessens the power imbalance he's very used to having.
Khonshu is generally adjusted to not seeing others for extended periods of time, both parties having their own stuff to do, him just popping in when he's available, etc... UNLESS Khonshu is obsessed with you. The more interested he is the more possessive he gets, and I tends to happen gradually then all at once. Watch out !
Khonshu's dream relationship is one of mutual obsession where his partner is just as crazy about him as he is with them. Give him a high dose of toxic codependency and he's happy as a clam. Until he inevitably takes it too far bc too much is never enough.
Unless/until that happens (and unless you're an avatar) he's fairly easy to woo. Likes food offerings, likes quality time. He's a starving, rejected god and he craves your faith.
Technically Khonshu can take any form he wants, so he CAN appear more human if he wanted to. He just rarely wants to. In fact he's much more likely to tell you to close your eyes if he wants to do something his normal form wouldn't allow, like kissing. And then refuse to explain on how he made it feel like he was doing that.
Shockingly sex is on the table and he'd be very amused if you wanted it from him. Finding him attractive in the Bird Skeleton Form is very appealing to him, not like expecting him to beauty-and-the-beast into some sexy angelic true god form. Whether or not he CAN do that doesn't matter
EDIT: I FORGOT ONE Khonshu is a gamer!! He would love to play board games with you. :> Especially with some kind of bet attached. Video games might be trickier but maybe you could offer him a controller and get him to try fortnite idk
I put a lot of thought into how self-aware Khonshu is about... anything, if his superiority complex is in any way born out of insecurity, like so many are. I do think Khonshu just straight-up believes he's the best of his pantheon, if not all gods, and holds his 'Greatest of the Great Gods' title with a very literal pride.
Khonshu believes he's superior because he's the one trying, working, and standing by humanity when others ran and hid, or weren't willing to pay the costs. Readily abandoning their people when things got hard. His stubbornness and refusal to give up or turn a blind eye to injustice has granted him enough faith and Avatars to keep going, and he believes what he's doing is just. Good luck ever talking him out of it.
Worth noting that Khonshu considering himself superior to most other gods has a lot of caveats to it. He doesn't consider Asgardians to be gods, for example, or those who can affect the world more directly and don't use faith as a fuel source. (Probably at least a little jealous of how easy some have it. Sure would be convenient to just have a magic lightning hammer he can swing around and smite people with, do all this shit himself.)
