Her father, Gabriel St. James, serves as the town’s sheriff, part of a long-standing family reputation tied to law enforcement and public service. Protecting the town isn’t just a job in the St. James family, it’s practically tradition. Discipline, responsibility, and community duty were values Zora grew up hearing about from the time she was small. For a while, people assumed she’d eventually follow that path too. But Zora’s attention was always somewhere else.
The ocean had a way of pulling at her curiosity in a way nothing else could. She spent hours along the coastline growing up, watching tide pools, collecting shells, and asking endless questions about the wildlife that lived just beneath the surface. Where some people saw waves, Zora saw entire ecosystems waiting to be understood. Science felt natural to her in a way law enforcement never quite did.
