Okay, in response to the anon who asked about Dean and his nicknames, what’re your thoughts on Sam? We don’t see him use nicknames in the same way Dean does, but my own personal headcanon is that they’re both pretty similar even in ways they aren’t aware of.
While Dean reserves ‘baby’ for the Impala, I can see Sam using it more commonly for whoever he’s close with. What’re your thoughts on it? I also have no irl supernatural friends to tap with so Tumblr is my escape lol
oh! sam, personally, is a whole different kind of nickname person than dean. where dean's nicknames are effortless and part of his personality, sam's feel more deliberate, more meaningful. i have this perception that sam would be easier to "befriend" and dean often has his guard up more often, but getting to his heart for real? i think it would be so hard to actually get to know the real sam!!!
in the beginning, when things are still fresh and most likely a little bit awkward, I see sam being more reserved. he wouldn't jump straight into a pet name. he'd likely stick to your name, maybe shorten it up if it naturally allows it. but a nickname? those would come slower, and only after you've settled into something real. he's the kind of guy that really thinks about things like that--who doesn't want to cheapen it by using a pet name that doesn't really mean anything yet.
i think, similar to dean, he would start with the basics: sweetheart, darlin'. but so so much softer. he would murmur it against your temple when he pulls you into a hug to comfort you. but I feel like these would be out of habit, because of hearing dean saying them so much. i don't think we even see this kind of affection in the show when he's with jessica. if remember correctly, he only ever throws around jess.
but once he's in deep? that's when the real ones come out. love seems like something he'd use in a way that's so soft it melts you--maybe even my love. angel could be another one, something he uses when he's feeling in awe of you, whispered in those quiet moments when he looks at you like he still can't believe you're his. i also see him use baby or babe but I feel like these would be just basic, standard pet names that he would use out of habit and not in a loving complete starstruck kinda way (if it makes sense???)
overall, to finish my essay about sammy, I do also feel like he would have some inside jokes nicknames. and that unlike dean, he would be comfortable showing affection around others. he wouldn't hide his feelings, but there would still be parts of him that are just for you, obviously. he's still a very reserved guy. but holding hands and soft kisses in front of dean? definitely, even just to get a snarky lil comment out of the big bro ehe
