Lore

 When he escaped, no one noticed at first. But when they did, they came after him with the ferocity of a thousand hunters. He closed his ears from their songs, their prayers and their curses. His feet carried him over the desert sand. It didn’t matter, where. Just away from them. As far as possible. Until the purple veil lifted. Until he could see without staring into the depths of hell. Until he could feel the stars shine on his head and his tears would mirror the darkness above him. Until the desert’s wind would caress his skin and say:

“Welcome home, my son.”

 Shrieks surrounded him. Sand blasted into the air behind him. He ran. Was this where he would die? Escaping the Void only to be caught by it’s hunters? Not even the Queen blessed him with her presence. No, he was going to fall to her court. But even then, he ran.

“I won’t die here,” he thought. “Not after all of that. I have already come so far-!”

He climbed the dunes, sweat vanishing as soon as it dropped from it’s skin. The sun was never kind to him, why should it be today? His goal was a structure of stone. His only hope of safety from the claws of these beasts. He leaped into the ruins, greeting the shadows with an exhausted sigh while he rested against a pillar in the middle of the entrance hall. He did not know where he was. A temple? A tomb? Not that it mattered much. The Sai crawled towards the entrance, tongues searching for the familiar scent they had hunted until now. The boy tried to breathe as silently as possible, but there was no use. They were already too close.

“Gods,” He thought, “If you really exist. If you truly listen, please...”

They came closer, their legs scratching on the rocky floor.

“Please...help me.”

One of the beasts took a last step forward. Their sounds echoed through the hall. The walls began to rumble, the inscriptions on the stone glowing in a strange light. The boy pressed his back against the pillar. That was not exactly what he meant. The next thing he noticed were rubbles falling on his clothes. Then the roar of a lion. A beast jumped in front of the boy, shaking stone out of it’s fur as it spread it’s wings from one side of the hall to the other. It didn’t take long until the Sai were reduced to lifeless shells. The beak and fur of the guardian was sullied with the courts’ blood. Then it turned around, eyeing the boy. The child with ivory skin and eyes like the midday sky, pushing it’s back against the pillar the beast was freed from. The griffon didn’t attack him. Maybe it was a new found sense of parental instinct. Maybe it was a distant memory of a lost friend. Maybe it was both.

The beast turned around, walking towards the entrance.

“W-Wait!”

The boy quickly came to his feet, stopping in his motion as the griffon turned around. Fear and panic mixed in his voice as he begged:

“Please...don’t leave me here.”

 They only saw the first humans a few days after they left the ruins. The griffon was not confident enough to carry the boy, and the latter didn’t even think about riding the beast. So they wandered through the desert, the beast only leaving the boy when they rested and got hungry. It returned with dead animals, ripping their skin before leaving the soft flesh to the boy. It wasn’t pleasant, but it was better than dying.

They ran into a group of devestated boys and a camel. The leader - or rather, the older one - needed some convincing before he let the two accompany the group. His name was Jaheje, and his group was hired from merchants to lead them through the Sai Khaleek. The weren’t fond of having to sneak with another, bigger animal, but they were not going to abandon a boy. They all knew the feeling and the pain too well.

They taught the boy how to move like a gazelle, how to sneak like a mouse, how to avoid the hunters of the Void and disturb them if necessary. The griffon, in turn, gave them more food and water than they could hope for, and even if most of the boys avoided the albino, they at least tolerated him.

“Do not worry, they will not harm you,” Jaheje said.

“I will make sure of that.”

 When they reached the next city, they entered a small building. They had to wait a day for the merchant (and their payment) to arrive, and to avoid sleeping on the street, Jaheje brought them to a ‘friend’. He did not know his name, but the native people called him Nasir.

“Do not talk to him. Do not anger him. And, more importantly, do not tell him your name.”

The commands were clear even before they had seen the person in question. But when they did, the boy understood. The ‘friend’ was clad in robes of all kinds of different colors, his dark skin only visible on his face and his hands.  He greeted them a bit too happily for the boy’s taste.

Jaheje and Nasir disappeared in a room in the back of the building while the reamining boys waited in the main room. When they returned, the leader’s eyes had an empty look, while Nasir smiled from one ear to another.

“You can stay the night.” He announced happily.

“I’ll make sure no one will disturb you.”

The same night, the boy felt fabric on his mouth. He opened his eyes, hearing the whispers of the fellow soft-steppers.

“Do you really think we can sell him?”

“Do you have any idea what he is worth?! With skin like this?”

“But what if he curses us? People with that skin can’t be normal.”

“You really believe in that?”

Panic. He tried to stand up and run. Sadly, the group had already tied him up, the former boy put a knife to his neck as once he moved.

“Great, now you woke him up! We are doomed!”

“Shut your mouth! He can’t do anything right now, so help me-”

“What are you doing there, Psaf?”

The words seemed to freeze the room. He could not turn around to see him, but I was sure the speaker was Nasir. And the man was not pleased.

“We- We were just trying-!”

“Shut up! Now, rise! Put that weapon down!”

His commands echoed through the room with an unnatural tone. The albino could feel goose bumps on his skin and a shiver down his spine. Something about the way he spoke seemed ... strange.

But the boy listened immediately. He stood up like he was about to salute, dropped the knife right in front of the albino’s face, all while being completly silent. The other silent-stepper backed away immediately, shivering. Nasir came into his field of vision, his eyes having an unnatural glow.

“Psaf ... and you, Shima, right?” He looked at the cowering boy.

“Both of you, LEAVE. And NEVER RETURN.”

And they did. With fear and their eyes, their bodies seemingly moving on their own, they left. Nasir looked after them, the glow in his eyes disappearing . Then he kneeled in front of the albino, untying him.

“You should be more careful, dear. Someone with that appearance attracts quite the attention.”

He looked up to the man, rubbing his wrists, mumbleing something close to a ‘thank you’. Nasir chuckled while brushing through the boys hair.

“Don’t worry, I’m glad I could help...however, I don’t think you should stay with this little group. As much as I like Jaheje, he can’t keep an eye on all of his students.”

The boy nodded quietly, agreeing, but added:

“I have no where else to go.”

“Really now?” There was the glow in his eyes again. Like a hungry jackal waiting for it’s prey.

“I can give you a home.”

“R...really? You would take me in?”

“Of course.” He purred, his voice soft as honey. He laid his arm around the boys shoulder, smiling at him.

“Now...what’s your name, boy?”

The boy stopped for a moment, remembering the words of the leader. The same leader that promised to take care of him. The trust was gone before it could even be built.

“Accipiter,” He answered.

“Accipiter Aches.”

“He doesn’t look like much of a fighter.” The old man leaned forward, his eyes inspecting the boy who was trying to hide behind Nasir. He wasn’t fond of people staring at him.

“I know, I know. Still, I need to give him some work. And you saw the beast outside?”

“‘Course I did.” The smith crossed his arms. “That doesn’t mean the boy is made for combat.”

Nasir took a step closer, smiling at the man as he put his left hand on his shoulder.

“But you would never deny me an offer, would you, Nezun?”

The man whinced at the mention of his name, averting the look of Nasir’s eyes.

“A’ight A’ight! What do you want?”

“I’m glad you asked! First of all, equipment for the griffon. A saddle and ... I’m not sure if reins will do it. Maybe a ring around it’s neck with handles. A sheet with that so the saddle won’t rub on his back, and a weapon to go with that...a scimitar maybe?”

Nasir turned to look at the boy behind him, who until now just listened. he was too devestated by the flood of words to react.

“Maybe a spear would suit his statue more. Don’t want him to lose his head while charging. A fitting armor, too, of course. The fabric should cover his skin but not hinder him in his movement-”

“Nasir, I’m a smith, not a tailor. If you want clothes, you need to talk to someone else.”

Nasir blinked suprised, then nodded, finger raised to his chin.

“Of course, of course. But what I mentioned before is certainly possible, right?”

The man sighed, then looked back at the boy.

“You ever wondered why people call him a djinn?”

The boy shook his head, visibly confused. Nasir, on the other hand, seemed rather pleased.

“Because he offers people his help and once you take that help, he turns it against you. Don’t trust this man, he’ll be coming after you for the rest of your life!”

“So about my request...” Nasir started, seemingly ignoring the statement of the smith.

“Consider it done.”

“Wonderful!” He turned towards the boy, who had clung to his robes until now.

“Now...we just need to get you a teacher for combat. I know exactly who~”

Nezun spit on the ground as he turned back to his forge.

“ ‘Course you do.”

 The shop was never really crowded. Mostly, people entered alone or as small groups. No one wanted to interact with Nasir, but everyone did it, in secret. This day, a beast stopped in front of the shop, and the man knew who it was before he had even entered the building. He put the scrolls he had been reading till now down, greeting the visitor the moment he pushed the cloth to the side.

“Accipiter, my boy! How was your first trip? Did everything work out?”

The boy sighed as he put his hood down, his hair falling on his back. It was Nasir’s idea to let it grow out, and the man wouldn’t let him admit that it was rather impractical. In turn, Accipiter wouldn’t admit that he liked it that way. He sat down, putting the spear he had carried on his back against the counter.

“Hello Nasir. Pretty upbeat, did you kill someone?”

“No need for that tone! I’m just happy to see you survived your first job. I was sure the client would abandon you halfway through the desert.”

“And yet you gave me the job.” Accipiter sat down, rubbing his strained neck.

“I had confidence!”

“Sure ... in any case, it was better than expected. Your client didn’t seem ... convinced of us at first, but just now he was pretty happy.” The boy grinned, one eye closed.

“Your idea worked. We didn’t even need to silent-step, Gahiji just took flight the moment something came too close to us!”

Nasir nodded, certainly pleased.

“Then you finally found work. Took you long enough.”

“Hey now.”

“I’m joking...but... you have money now. What will you use it for? Any big goal in life you want to accomplish? Buy a house? Or maybe some fashionable clothes?”

Accipiter stared at the wooden counter, drawing patterns on it, seemingly lost in thought. Then he looked up again, all childish naivity blown from his face.

“I want to destroy the Void.”

 Accipiter’s fingers played nervously with the rope that was tied to his spear. He wasn’t fond of his current job, but he also wasn’t picky. Not that he had the choice to be. He accompanied a family of traders to the newly risen capital of The Hawk-Father, or however they called him. His past taught him that one should not mess with something so close to divine, and he would rather not find out if the rumors about Azir wanting slaves were true. But he needed the money. For stronger weapons, for better armor, for anything that would help him defeat the wreched beasts of the Void.

Gladly, the way to the capital was rather easy to find. The giant sundisc was obvious enough, but the horde of merchants traveling there was enough of a hint. They ran into the first group a good few days away from the capital, and from there on every danger was only an annoyance.

Gahiji had been as excited about the trip as the boy was nervous. The closer they got to the capitol, the harder it was to hold Gahiji back. When they came to the gates, they reached a point where Accipiter had to hold the ring around the griffon’s neck almost constantly close to his chest.

“I will meet you in the city for the payment!”, he managed to say to his client, before the griffon started sprinting through the streets. Past all the other merchants, camels and goods, through the streets and alleys. Accipiter had no idea where he was going, but he let him. He knew the griffon was as old as this empire, seeing this place must have woken some memories.

They jumped on the roof of a building, flying closer to the middle of the city, and as Gahiji climbed the stairs, Accipiter seemed to realize where he was going. He tried to pull the griffon back, but what was the might of a boy against that of an ancient beast? Gahiji only stopped once they reached one of the pillars under the Sun Disc. Accipiter pulled his hood, shielding himself from the light of both suns, before he stared at the scenery. The entire city lay to their feet, every house, every alley.

“You were here before, weren’t you?” He mumbled, and the griffon agreed. The winds were softly pulling on his clothes. A welcoming embrace, maybe? The last time the winds acted like this was when he reached Shurima.

“We should go,” he patted the griffon’s neck.

“They are waiting for us.”

Accipiter and Gahiji Rework ... ?

I’ll try to keep this as short as possible:

I’ve been thinking about reworking Accipiter and Gahiji for some time now because of multiple reasons. The most important ones beind the independece of a character (aka not being tied to a canon character (and their mun) ) and the new information we got on Shurima (the short story of the Sai, for example.) which gave me some new ideas I want to put in here.

The rework would include the following changes:

Accipiter escapes the Cult by himself, finding Gahiji’s relic in a tomb close to the Sai

They would never visit Demacia (due to the noxian influence in the north and the fact that THERE’S A GIANT OCEAN THERE ALL OF A SUDDEN AND WE ARE NOT CROSSING THAT)

and, the most important thing:

They never meet up with Azir, thus Acci never becomes a soldier

Instead, Acci will mainly work as a mercenary, guiding traders and merchants through Shurima while looking for a way to deal with the Void, expecially the Sai

His magic...I think. I’m still debating if he will keep his rudimentary knowledge of his power, tranfer the wind magic to Gahiji or drop it completly.

Here comes the important part:

I want your opinion on the whole idea. While Accipiter and gahiji are my characters, there is no point in reworking them if I lose all my RP Partners that way. (Though, as a fair warning, point 1 and 2 will likely be added either way as to not put too much in his new lore.)

Alternate Universes Masterpost [Reboot]

There is already a small description of my AUs in Acci’s Characterpage, but I decided to dive a bit more into them, describing how Alternate Universes work on this blog and explaining them further.

Timeline

The canon timeline follows Accipiter’s normal life as a mercenary through Shurima. He does not know of the League of Legends, and it is up to the RP partner under which lore they will operate (after the fall of it or without it ever existing).

All further AUs are extensions of this canon and sometimes follow each other:

Explanations

Soldier AU

The AU in which the former canon will be put into. Accipiter travels to the new risen capital and works under Azir as a ‘soldier’(’guard’/’mascot’/’nuisance’/...). He believes Azir has the power to stop the Void, and wants to lend the emperor his strenght. He would be put in the Horse Division under Makani, a group of people who ride on mounts. The Commander AU and the Deserter AU are extensions of this.

Commander AU

Shurima and the Void were at an all out war, the latter invading the desert. Accipiter fought in it and saw his Commander Makani (NPC of mine) die, being ripped apart by the Void beasts. Seeing his Division, brothers and sisters in arms being without a leader, helpless and unconcentrated, he calls out to the River King Tahm Kench, with whom he has talked before. Tahm offers him a way to undergo the Rite of Ascension while the war wages. However, it fails. The Sundisc, angry about the attempt or maybe just seeing Accipiter as ‘unworthy’, almost burns him to ashes. Accipiter manages to flee with injuries and has to rest, seeing Azir leading the army to battle without him. Both frustrated with himself and the entire situation, he get’s on Gahiji as quickly as possible, leading his Division instead of Makani (even if Azir didn’t exactly allow it), uniting them as a leader. The war is won, and Accipiter is announced the Commander of the Horse Division (and possibly the youngest Commander in Shuriman History). Shurima defeated the Void, bringing peace back to the desert as far as ‘otherworldly attacks’ go. It is unsure if Xerath and Azir still fight each other or if they have come to terms after combining their strenghts. The failed ritual, the war itself and a possible kick in the butt from a certain Darkin has made Accipiter a lot more bitter but also calm, pushing his idea of a ‘hero’ into a different light. He also seems a lot more adult now, being responsible for more lives than his own now.

Deserter AU

In this AU, Accipiter joins Azir’s army, but never quite makes it to the Void War. He gets frustrated with Azir not taking him serious as a soldier, with people judging him by appearance and age, and finally, by the inactivity of the emperor against the Void. He gets into an argument with Azir, which ends in Accipiter leaving the army and going rogue. Through this, he get’s caught by Xerath’s troops and brought to him. The Ascedant, promising him everything he wanted, recruits him as his own soldier. His morales have shifted a lot. He left most of his naivity at Shurima, making him more mature (but not less reckless).

Ascended AU

Shurima wages war against the Void once more, and to bring victory to it, Accipiter attempts the Rite of Ascension with the help of the River King Tahm Kench. However, this time, the Sundisc actually gives him the power he seeks, turning him into a hawk-like being (without getting rid of his albinism, though it does not seem to bother him as much as it did before). With the power to control the storms to his will at an instant, Accipiter immediately takes on the army, scattering their human forces as well as slaying the beasts. The Void is defeated and peace is brought back to Shurima. In this timeline, Accipiter is a lot more selfconfident and also cocky, gaining immense power at a relatively young age and not exactly using it ‘accodingly’. Gahiji has become part of the boy druing his Ascension.

Void AU

Again the war against the Void, though this time, with a different outcome. The Void wins... or at least, is not defeated completly. Somewhere in between, Accipiter loses his Division, standing alone against the Void Army. The exact procedure is open to the Malzahar willing to RP the scenario, but sooner or later, Accipiter will be brainwashed back into becoming a Cultist, a Herald of the Void and enemy to Tyria. His mind has become a lot duller in this AU, loyalty and destruction are the only thing in his mind, even Gahiji is only a steed to him rather than a companion.
