Human!Markus is a (damn) good nurse. He is a nurse, in the way it is a part of him and always will be. The knowledge and compassion and calm through adrenaline is as much a part of him as the way he thinks in the mindset of someone who spends his days trying to heal and help, and who looks for the physical and mental pains he’s dedicated his professional life to treat.
However, his goal is just that: to help. When he says, ‘I’m a nurse!’ in a situation of urgency or duress it is because he is raising himself as a source of help. It is not a ‘I’m a nurse’ (you need to respect me, I know and you Do Not) etc. Ofc he has knowledge others do not have. He is an ER nurse who works in a high volume, down-town Detroit Michigan hospital. But he’s not coming from a place of ‘I know better’; he’s coming from a place of, ‘I can help’.
‘The Deviant Leader’, ‘The Saviour’, etc
How about a man who wanted to live and simply thought, ‘There is something I can do’ about this. A man who said, ‘I have two hands, and an idea, and I will help you.’ A man who could and so he did, because the alternative was not helping, and that was no option at all. A man with perspective others hadn’t been able to have, and who brought it forward and presented it as an option.
A man who is green-blue eyes and warm sunlight even in the winter and who finds ways to carry weight he never asked for and who has to try, and who is no saviour, no ‘deviant leader’, no ra9. A man who is alive and thought others deserved to be recognized as alive too, and in the after of the revolution wanted nothing more than to train more and more hands to help and help themselves.
Hello!!
There was discussion of the US hospital system courtesy of my friends on the dash and I now have, thoughts/feelings about human!Markus. If you would ever like your muse to need medical attention/interact with ER staff/be in the ER, that would be a great place to interact with human!Markus!
The ER is like a second home to him and he is a damn good nurse and will go above and beyond for his patients and for people who come into the ER for any kind of help.
Not to be like this on main, but do you ever look at an image of your muse and: Just. The dip between his shoulder blades. The way he is muscular and limber and elegant and some lucky person get’s to-
Okay, okay but hear my out:
This beautiful gif-set brought it to my attention and then I hunted down the footage (starting at 12:06) to really listen to the way Markus speaks and his choice of words and, oh, oh-
“The humans won. Our people have been slaughtered.” Our. Our he says, to Connor, as Connor steps into clear view with a gun pointed at him. He says ‘the humans’ as a collective group, but he doesn’t use any language that would pull Connor into that group.
“Go ahead... Take my life. It won’t change anything. We fought for a dream and we lost. But no one can stem the tide of history. One day we will prevail. Thousands of our people died today... what difference does one more make?”
Markus consistently uses ‘our’. He consistently refers to the the android people as ‘our’ people not ‘my’. This language of inclusion is consistent for him and it is a vital part of the language of the movement he helped build. The language of ‘you deserve better’, the language of the lives of every android being sacred no matter when or how they deviated.
Look at the way he speaks; he does not want to die, but he is not afraid to. He is not bitter, he is not reaching for blame in what might be moments before his death. He is pragmatic, open (the tired in his voice, the emphasis on ‘change’ in ‘in won’t change anything’, the way he shifts in pain; he is Not hiding here. He is not putting on a front. He does not hide).
And when he asks, ‘what difference does one more make?’ he is not questioning how much his life matters. He knows what he is worth. He knows he is alive. He knows he (they) deserve better. He is asking Connor. ‘Does this make a difference? Does taking my life give you anything? Does taking my life make something easier or better for you? What does taking my life do?’ He is asking Connor to consider the ‘why’. He is saying ‘one more won’t make a difference to the thousands of our people that died-.... or will it? Does one life matter?’
It might sound resigned on the surface, but listen. Listen to the way his voice picks up at the end! Look at his eyes!!
He knows the answer. (Every life is important. Every life makes a difference.)
tl: dr: Markus consistently uses language (’our) that intentionally includes (not excludes) Connor AND seeks to ask him ‘why’. It is Markus’ one way of reaching under the circumstances they have found themselves in.
Good evening here is the question, you know how Connor sometimes wears Markus' sweaters etc if Markus is away: would markus ever wear connor's leather jacket. Connor had the thought yesterday and has not let up. He is InterestedTM to know if Markus in his leather jacket is an option 😆 any verse.
I wouldn't rule out Markus in Connor's leather jacket as an option... sometime. But to be honest, his first thought when I put the question to him, was 'what if I get something on it'
Obviously he knows it wouldn't be. A DramaTM between them if he did, but it is Connor's leather jacket (his favorite) and for that reason he would not want to ruin it. That is less likely when he is just in their home, wearing it because Connor is away, I-
Think it would be much more likely for it to be around his shoulders. Not properly on, but he pulled it around his shoulders for warmth and because it smelled like Connor, and now he is asleep at the table, or on the couch, etc.
Yes, that is likely.
The amount of recoil I feel when I’m browsing through my screencaps and Markus sees himself in a suit.
I am like, ‘this one is-’
“I’m in a suit.”
