✦ I N D I G O ✦ ✺ Indigo is one of the oldest dyes in human civilization! India has been using it since 5000 BC, and the tried and tested methods, largely powered by human strength, have not changed much since then. ✺The process of making Indigo dye is zero waste - the leftover leaves are used as a bio-fertilizer. ✺ Dyeing with Indigo is an interesting and alchemic process. It is a non-soluable dye that requires specific water pH and no oxygen - thus, the indigo vat is very deep (like, 15 feet!), frothy, fragrant, and ominous. When the fibers are dipped in this murky blue wonder just once, they reveal to the light in a teal-green shade that transforms with its first breath to that famous deep blue hue that has captured the world throughout history.
