Doing [for jim]
Three Habits
“Smokin’, drinkin’, an’ rebellin’.” He slams the rest of his whiskey, lights a cigarette on a match and tugs his big six gun from its holster. The sharp report of gauss rifles resound outside and Raynor shoulders his way out into it, breathing deep the scent of war.
🎵 for Jimmy, and 🎵 for Link
Jimothy JimJam Raynor - Man of Constant Sorrow [The Soggy Bottom Boys (yes the version from O’ Brother)]
It’s got that twang and no matter how ya slice it, Jimmy is a country boy. He was born on Shiloh, an agricultural fringe colony--and let’s not pretend the guy has had it easy. I mean jeezis. Also Jim can prolly play the banjo idk.
Link - Glitter and Gold [Barnes Courtney]
This one was tough. I wanted to choose Ancient Hero OC remix, because that song has always held tightly to my heart since I first heard it as a kid and it’s literally Link’s theme. But this one... it’s got a lot of weight, kind of hits home how Link is always striding forward, how he will always rise, has a fire in his soul--and ponders the darkness, ‘cause it’s always before him. He chases it.
HC dump Raynor
Jim has a thing for red-heads. Liddy had auburn hair and of course Kerrigan did, as well. He has never considered this particular aspect of himself. In fact, it is Matt Horner who points it out to him, deep in their cups on night aboard Hyperion. It earns Matt a hearty cuff across the shoulder, but a thoughtful look from Jim.
He has never considered his sexuality beyond the surface wants and needs. He might, if asked, identify himself as “not picky”, but with a definite leaning toward women. As a rebellion leader, the idea of a romance is simultaneously far from his mind and carried close to his heart at all times. He will always carry a torch for Sarah Kerrigan, Queen of Blades or not and, though she might reject him, he cannot shake the feelings he has for her.
He has tattoos all over his body. Some of them, he remembers, some he does not.
Raynor misses his son, though John was taken when he was barely out of diapers. It was, in fact, this incident that cause Liddy to commit suicide. Sometimes, he can almost picture what the boy would look like now, fifteen or twenty years later. There are times he wonders if the boy is alive somewhere, serving as a Ghost for whatever is left of the old Dominion.
Jim has very casual, yet southern, mannerisms, including any pet name that he chooses to use. Darlin’ is his personal favorite and is, in general, reserved for people of the more feminine persuasion—he wouldn’t, for example, refer to Tassadar as “darlin’”—but he would refer to his protoss friend as Tass.
He sometimes feels much much older than the mid-forties that he actually is, and the gray shocks of hair near his temples are a testament to this. That being said, he is physically robust and not the kind of man who gives up because he is tired. This is simultaneously a great strength and a glaring weakness.
