“‘Cause when I open my mouth, my whole heart comes out. Every tear I wanna cry is satisfied. I’m singin’ till I’m winnin’, I’ma sing all night.” 1/23/18: this was out on a whim at Da Poetry Lounge in Fairfax Village of West Hollywood, because I couldn’t decide which of my poems I wanted to recite. I had been on such a high with my life and the people in it (especially the thought of someone I realized I was beginning to crush on) that I just HAD to sing. You ever have those moments where you feel as if you’re gonna float away if you don’t do what you love in that instant? Well, this was one of those. My talents are raw and unrefined, untrained and rough around the edges. I’m seeking professional training and lessons, because if THIS is what I can do WITHOUT it, imagine how much my natural talent could be WITH IT. I think one of the biggest hurdles for me is vocal stamina; because my voice is so big, and typically effortless in how it flies out of me, sometimes it’s hard for me to finesse through an entire song with this much vocal demand, because I tire from it. And I used to be so insecure about it. Nowadays, I emphatically try to appreciate how there will be times my humanity will show in my voice, because much like me, it is not perfect. And that’s okay. Because the moments I am most myself, the moments in life I am the most free, are when I just SING. (Also, there’s a time limit for performances at DPL so I was only able to get this much of @xtina’s “Bound to You” in.)
